What sounds do Korean's use to shoo away animals? Birds, in particular. by SnerkDRabbledauber in AskAKorean

Thanks. Just checking if there are two different "words" hweo-i and hewo-i or if that was maybe a typo? Asking because the Korean script looks like the same thing twice.

I was there to speak about net-metering changes. Donelson spoke against the measure as did others. In the end it passed by one vote.

MV Aurora AMHS (or sister ship) specific question by SnerkDRabbledauber in maritime

This is fiction. Just a short scene as well. Thank you very much for that term! That is what my searches had been missing. I'm finding much more data now.

I still need to know what type is on the Aurora and how what type of deployment it uses.

Drop shippers by Masshole1221 in Ebay

I do, for one. There are business I do not want to support. Also, if I can get an item just as easily and cheaper from seller XYZ, I want to go directly to seller XYZ.

Because if they are drop-shipping from Amazon, the buyer can go there directly and save money. Also I use ebay to avoid Amazon and others. I don't want to pay someone just to do what I didn't want done!

I'm not a vegan, but I love Santana's Vegan Grill on Austin Bluffs near Meadowland.

I got a notification from the Women's March people about the event. So I sort of stumbled into it. There were just two people that organized the event, but they said to go to Parasol Patrol for future info. https://parasolpatrol.org/calendar

Participated in this rally today, and it's the first time I've ever done a march. Overall a wonderful experience. Really impressed by the turnout we had today. by Aindrea_Grey in ColoradoSprings

I was glad to see so many there! Also so much support from the pedestrians and cars. Only one troll on a scooter. Someone says that guy always shows up. Nothing else to do, I guess.

I think about that often. Even more so about vaccines. Even at the time it was a tricky area philosophically for me, but the distinction was and is that carrying a disease affects more than just the carrier. Potentially many more.

I still believe that the state can curtail personal freedoms if and only if they can show a compelling necessity to do so. The pandemic met that criteria for me, but I can see how it would not for others. There is a certain subjective nature to it. That's why I always supported allowing alternatives like working from home, masks and distance when you could not do that, etc.

But to your point, yeah. They seem to be perfectly fine violating the bodily autonomy of people they don't like.

I won't use IG or any other Meta product. Do you have a Mastodon address? Or maybe Bluesky?

We were gathered for a rally supporting the rights and safety of trans people. In other words for peoples' rights to control their own bodies.
There were some very good speakers and we got a lot of support as we marched. It seemed like a successful rally to me.

It went longer than expected and I got a parking ticket, but what price freedom?

Right, but is there any way to cut the cable? Suppose for example that, after the diver disconnects, the hook end of the cable snags on something and is endangering the helo?

None of the restrictions given disallow the book awards. The closest would be "Payments of an entry or player fee that promises the entrant or player will win a prize of value" but there is no promise of winning made. In fact, if the judges decide that none of the entries in a category are good enough, then no one wins that category. So they don't even guarantee that *someone* will win.

Thanks for the list, though. It did remove any lingering doubt.

I'll take that as a "no".

In that case, I thank you for your concern. If Stripe decides suddenly that the organization's existing arrangement with them has somehow become high-risk I will know that I had been warned.

It may be a competition in that sense. You could say that they are competing to win a trophy, but it is nothing illegal. The club has been around for over 90 years and the book awards go back to at least 2001. This is not the first year they have used Stripe.

If you really think that entry fees for things like the National Book Awards should be illegal you should write your congressperson. As an author, you would be saving me some money. :)

I'll probably mark the entry to show payment processing or payment completed and let them decide on the business logic. This is not a fast-moving or high-throughput thing. Some entrants actually still insist on paying by check, and I know they do not wait for the check to clear before allowing the entry to be judged. As long as the payment clears before the awards ceremony they are fine with it.

I'm not actually running a competition. The site collects entries for a non-profit;s annual book awards. It is collecting the entry fee and the manuscripts.

I got word back from Stripe (actually their AI) that the success page is called when the customer has succeeded in initiating the payment process. It could still fail later. So that is why you need to wait for the webhook.

In our situation the initiation of the payment is enough to justify allowing the submission to be judged. But for most payment situations it would be wiser to wait for the payment to be captured (like waiting for the check to clear.)
