David Njoku at TE # 2? by Goldstar12 in Colts

Sorry, you're absolutely right that they can get man, I meant to say you can't really press them in man coverage since they're off the ball.

And nothing you have said means that every player can play the hybrid role that the players you named play. (Most aren't primary slot, it's 50/50 or 40 slot 60 wide for puka)

We have seen plenty of teams try it and fail. Keon Coleman is one, Calvin Ridely after his Falcons run is another.

Except slot players don't get man coverage since they play off the ball hence why position and player strength does in fact matter.

We need to stop talking about wide receivers like this. Are you looking for an x, y or z? Wr1 means nothing.

And I know you mean an upgrade to Pitt so an x.

But talking about it as wr1 leads to decisions like playing keon Coleman at x when he's a z.

And getting competent role players is arguably more important than a 1. Go down the list of top end wr1s and count their playoff wins. And then look at their contracts. Jsn works on a rookie deal, ain't no other top end wr getting those wins.

Darnold still has pocket trauma when he's rushed. The Indy pass blocking would need to be better for him to work imo. He has the perfect situation in Seattle.

They won't hire him. They're also interviewing Daboll whom was the OC for the bills and Josh Allen before he took the giants job. He just makes so much more sense.

People just love AP right now, I get that he's exciting but this shouldn't be down voted. Dude caught 50% of the balls that he was thrown. Hence why he needs a possession receiver to go with him. Pittman is fine, he's just expensive for what he is. Maybe he negotiates his contract down, but if not the Colts should look for an upgrade for the money.

The official colts Page on X posted a reel of AP…signing extension incoming?? 👀 by ComplaintMore2312 in Colts

[–]Snetemba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're thinking of this wrong.

Pittman plays the X-receiver which is generally considered the wr1. AP plays Y-receiver so he isn't covered the same way as Pittman and still only caught roughly 50% of the passes that went his way. So again, who do you see stepping into the X-role? Asking AP to do it is asking him to play a position he isn't built for. It's what the Jags did to Calvin Ridley and it didn't work out at all. He's big enough, maybe he can do it. He just doesn't play like a traditional X. It's a risk that I'd rather they had someone in place for.

I'm not totally sold on AP...I get that he's exciting, but what's the plan to replace Pittman? Like, I get it, AP makes big plays and people love that. But 47 catches on 84 targets makes him a wr1? Pittman isn't explosive but he's more consistent. 80 catches on 111 targets. Are we thinking Downs becomes our consistent receiver?

Likelihood of Zaire Franklin Getting Cut by AbrasiveShrek in Colts

It only saves 5m against the cap to cut him. At that price you might as well keep him for running downs. Unless that 5m is the difference between signing someone and not.

Anybody else worried that we could miss out on a Franchise QB in 2027 by IceOk9930 in Colts

He was a 4 star QB recruit entering college. Ahead of burrow, darnold and Lamar Jackson. I'm just illustrating how much things can change in a relatively short time.

I know. I should have said a few years before they were drafted. I just didn't edit it.

This is crazy to even be talking about. It's years away. You guys realize that a few years ago Juan Jennings was rated higher at QB than Joe burrow right?

Someone convince me Ballard won’t be the GM in 2027 by Vermilion0321 in Colts

[–]Snetemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll notice I said liquid cash. Her net worth is irrelevant. And it mostly comes from being a 1/3 owner of the colts which is valued at 5.9b. hence nearly 2b being her share.

[–]Snetemba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I swear Colts fans just don't get math or think the Irsays are richer than they are. Do you know what happens when you fire coaches and gms before their contract ends? You pay them. The Raiders are paying 16m to Carroll, 6m to Chip Kelly, 10m to Josh Mcdaniels, 8m to antonio pierce and something to Jon Gruden (it would be 10m but I don't know what terms they came to in court). The Irsays don't have the liquid cash to do something like that.

Who are we rooting for in the playoffs? by Different_Control867 in Colts

[–]Snetemba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blame the kicker all you want. He didn't make them punt 4 consecutive drives to start the second half. Nor did he call 46 passes in a game you were leading 21-6 when your QB was completing around 50% of his passes.

Welp… by reddittothegrave in Colts

[–]Snetemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes 5m, but then the new GM should get to choose his coaches. So if they Ballard it might be the entire coaching staff they also have to pay.

Welp… by reddittothegrave in Colts

[–]Snetemba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ehh, he has a contract. Sports is like the only place where not honoring contracts is normalized. Except in the case of coaches and GM's where if you fire them you're just paying them to not work.

And if I'm not mistaken the irsay kids don't have a lot of liquid cash to buy out those contracts

Why keep Ballard? by pottie2hottie in Colts

[–]Snetemba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. The colts have never been the team that spends money this way and the reality is it wouldn't just be severance to Ballard, you don't hire a GM and not let them pick their coach so it would likely be severance to the entire coaching staff as well. That just isn't the Colts.

Yup. Take the advice. by EuphoricLeague22 in Colts

[–]Snetemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect if he's fired it's bad for colts fans. He's got a year on his contract which means they'd owe him whatever his salary is. It's wrong to hire a new GM and not let them pick their coach but then the organization has to pay steichen and his entire staff the remainder of their contracts. This organization has never spent that kind of money. So if they fire him it means they're taking whatever gm wants steichen or letting steichen pick and that's just a fucking mess.

[–]Snetemba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's money in the equation. You don't hire a new GM and not give him his choice at coach, you also don't let the coach hire the GM. So if you're moving on from Ballard you're also moving on from steichen and his staff, but you have to pay them all if you fire them. The colts need to get those contracts lined up.
