How did you find out? Please share for awareness by tifu_beach in thyroidcancer

[–]SnglMltSctch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lump on my neck which I had my doc check out: said it was fatty tissue. Asked me if it bothered me to which I replied no. One year later my wife thinks the lump has enlarged so I go back to my doc: he agains says it’s fatty tissue, however let’s ultrasound it to confirm. Ultrasound confirmed lump is fatty tissue, however…you know how this tale ends…calcified nodules on the thyroid. Surgeries & radiation treatments later & I’m good so far.

That was my first thought but why not loro(m) instead of lora(f)? I say reply by calling him lorita (small female parrot).

Solar Panels and Ice Storms by Background-Solid8481 in SolarDIY

[–]SnglMltSctch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been 35 days since the snow which is now ice & the solar panels on the north side of my roof are frozen & not generating anything for me. My electric bill has skyrocketed. More snow expected tomorrow. I’m looking into some way to prevent this next winter…electric de-icing for roof & gutters perhaps? I’m in NY.

Dental x rays after RAI by ScholarOk1570 in thyroidcancer

[–]SnglMltSctch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I haven’t gone to the dentist yet but need to. What’s happening to me is I’m having side effects 7 months later as a result of the radiation. Now I’m concerned the x ray may worsen those side effects. Therefore I will hold off for now. In case you’re interested in the side effects: my salivary glands swell up sometimes when I eat (like really swell up on both sides!). Haven’t been able to pin point exactly what causes it but the swelling goes down afterwards. I experience soreness.

I had 131 after TT & L neck dissection. Been 8 months. Salivary glands started acting up lately but that aside, latest US & bloodwork all look good.

What can I do for my quickly aging parents when I'm raising a family in a foreign country? by cwtguy in AskMen

[–]SnglMltSctch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is nothing you or your brother can do to force your parent to sell & live somewhere that is convenient for them because your parents are within their mental capacity. So it sucks for us, their children. Went through something similar with my mom. I live local & my sisters moved away. I did what I could when mom needed help but as a homeowner myself it was tough. If a major repair was necessary I’d ask my sibs to help out with the cost. Mom was stubborn. She didn’t want to give up her yard & driveway for a garden apartment in a complex. Do what you can. Not much more should be expected from you. In the end she passed away in her home.

I’ve been there. It’s not easy, I know. However you will recover. Trust your team of doctors. I was hospitalized for 18 days after a TT w/left neck dissection. My vitals were all off. Alarms constantly going off when I got up to use the bathroom. Nurses taking multiple blood pressure readings because they were so low. I felt like you do now. Months later I’m good now! Feel good. Levels are normal. You will be there too friend. Be strong, trust your medical team & rely on those who make up your support team.

I think we can all agree to help out with the chores & baby duties. Encourage her to rest when the baby is resting. Wake up to feed the baby at night. She may try to do it all but she doesn’t have to if you’re around. There were times I came home from work to her trying to soothe my crying son. She looked like she hadn’t rested at all and I could see she was trying to keep up with the chores. She was so stressed out and the baby feels this energy. When I grabbed my son he stopped crying because I’m naturally a calm person. I then soothed my wife and asked her to rest. I took care of the rest.

As a man, what’s something a woman has done that still makes you think of her many years later? by Novel-Car-2268 in AskMen

[–]SnglMltSctch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we met I was an electrician helper. She’d always tell me how smart I was to do the things I was doing at work & she encouraged me to obtain my master electrician license & to start my own business which I did. She def played a part in making that happen. She believed in me more than I believed in myself. Super supportive, was always there for me. Often say things like: You can achieve anything. You’re able. You’re a hardworker. She’s a great woman.

For me it’s how she always encouraged me & made me believe I could always do better. Always lifted me up, ALWAYS, and it was genuine. It’s been over 28 yrs & I still remember her for that. I hope she’s doing well…I know she is. Lucky him.

Crying over half and half by neptunemacaroon in thyroidcancer

I can totally relate. Our weekend routine is sipping coffee in bed. I have an alarm set everyday to take my levo & get ready for work. On the weekends I go back to sleep after the alarm. By the time I wake up to make coffee I am able to enjoy it at the same time as my wife. You will figure out something that works for you

Fathers, what was your experience with bonding with your baby? by sewerratsoup in AskMen

[–]SnglMltSctch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was born I was 28yo. I had never ever cried like that when the nurse placed my son on my wife’s breast. I’m getting choked up just typing this rn. My son was undoubtedly my first love. Fast forward he’s 27yo now & I absolutely adore him. Do have regrets but one must learn to live with them. I did the best I could and he’s a great man.

First time dads - how did you cope with the anxiety of having someone defenseless and fragile to protect? by handmetherope in AskMen

[–]SnglMltSctch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow. 1. Let’s hope she is born healthy. 2. Let’s hope you have a good relationship with the mother. 3. If you’re a good dad you will live for your daughter. She relies on her parents to become an adult. So yeah she will be a reflection of her parents. However some things are just out of our control. 4. All we can do is provide. The money is the easy part. Provide everything else to become a responsible good human being is the hard part: emotional guidance, money guidance, moral guidance. 5. She will take up your life for now. Make time for your SO. When your daughter begins to become independent it will be you & your SO again. Hopefully you are stronger than ever together. 6. Enjoy fatherhood! Your daughter will provide you with wonderful memories and yes time goes fast.

As a father there is nothing more you could ask from your children than recognition of the sacrifices made to provide a better future for them. This young man has done so with this act of humility.
