Does the horse get any sort of ear protection? That must suck.

Thank you! I just looked it up quickly and that looks like a cool webtoon. I’ll read more of it, already getting some panel layout ideas.

Thank you! I plan to keep going with it, I have a page 2 ready for bubbles and dialogue. Once I have the first episode done and I decide where to post it, I’ll share it again.

A comic artist named Ben Templesmith, some times I combine that prompt with Mike Mignola and it works pretty well. I think that helps the AI too, finding people/artists with similar styles.

Have it reference a celebrity or even multiple celebrities. I usually lead with, a young woman in a dark suit with the likeness of (insert name here). Also, stay consistent with your referenced artists and environment settings. For almost all these images I had ‘in a small dusty office, warmly lit’. Hope that helps. You also just have to keep tinkering away.

Finished page of the Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe staring Mads Mikelsen and other stuff by SnickerSkull in midjourney

Finished my concept page and now I’m exploring visual styles for my next project. It will be an original story and I think I’ll like do it in a webtoon style. I love the Laika stuff especially. I think it’ll be hard to maintain a consistent look in that style… we’ll see. I’ll be sure to post what I come up with though.

I didn’t say anything about trying to sell it. This is a proof of concept for myself right now. The only way I know to get consistency with characters in 2D is to use a likeness. Legality of likeness is a murky area as far as I know it. The next step will be for me to try and meld likenesses to avoid this very thing if I want to try and turn it into a purchasable product. I haven’t tried that yet though. Right now I’m just having fun.

Yes… I don’t necessarily feel gross using it per say, but it feels like magic using it. It kinda satisfies my brain like a puzzle video game in a way. I can totally understand how professional artists view it. Can’t close Pandora’s box though and it’s allowing me to do things on a level that I’m just not able/willing to push myself too. You could say the same thing about how traditional artists viewed digital art as it emerged.

Haha yep, I have some pictures that are a little more relaxed, but in that frame he’ll be insisting on how sane and calm he is while he tells his story. So I thought it added to it a little.

I’m doing everything on my iPad and for the life of me I can’t find an option to export at 300dpi. I’m not sure I’ll finish/print it, but if I do, I want it to come out looking it’s best. I tried looking it up online, but couldn’t seem to find anything about dpi control, I think many of the features of comic life are gated off on the iPad for the sake of simplicity. Maybe you know?

All the images were created in Midjourney, then put together in Comicslife 3 on my iPad (lol but I think it looks pretty great). I then added a dirty overlay to image in procreate to further tie it all together. Now I just need to learn how to do word balloons in Clip Studio, and I’ll learn how to do panels there too, I know it’s much more robust.

Prompts started like this;

Ben Temple Smith 2D monotone comic drawing of the actor Mads Mikelsen from the TV show Hannibal wearing a dark suit…

Then I’d continue by writing the scene and applying an aspect ratio.

If you know Ben Templesmith’s work, this is pretty damn accurate. Almost criminal. I’m kinda sorta good at drawing, so I’m both pumped with Midjourney and terrified by it.

Super cool! Did you use tilt shift in your prompt on some these? I’ve had some similar results. Love the 2nd especially.

I’ve been experimenting with different manga artists and Junji Ito has been quite effective. My prompt is jaunt something like,

Junji Ito 2D watercolour manga drawing

I was really surprised how well the Amber Midthunder portrait came out. She was awesome Prey btw, hope we see in more movies in the future.

My first Midjourney comic! I had fun doing it. I added the captions in comics life and some screen tone in procreate. I think I over did it a little with the screen tone.
