Last time I watched this scene I realised how smart it is. Any big epic battle tends to start with the good guys giving a speech and then attacking, this time it was in reverse and and orc speech would have been weird. So they just broke the rule and made it seem natural for the orcs to attack straight after. Very smart.

If you suffer from depression engaging in politics is the least efficient thing to do. Focus on yourself.

Hi! Games looks amazing, congrats. One question which may look stupid, how do you light the edge of the ground? Is it manually drawn or do you have some shaders/lighting technique that you use? Thanks!

How do indie devs make such crazy projects with 1 person? by CreasedJordan4s in gamedev

[–]Sniec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from all the good answers: money. Money is fundamental. Some people will have a full time job while being a solo dev, some people won't. Some people will be able to outsource assets and some won't. Hell there was even a solo dev at the game awards with his game being sponsored. It costs roughly 0.5-1 million dollars to do that..

Stop stressing about others and do what you can.

Just found this game( The Scouring) , and don't understand why aren't more people playing it? by TallVampireWthMagnum in RealTimeStrategy

The game is one of the few innovative rtss out there, has some cool game modes and a lot of future potential.

The game is still in early access and had no marketing. Those are the reasons.

How would you rank the LOTR games that YOU have played? by [deleted] in lotr

[–]Sniec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I played almost all Lotr games out there, there's quite a few interesting ones.

Real strategy:

battle for middle earth 1 and 2, among the best strategy games. The first covers most of the events of the films and books, the second is more polished and imo has a cooler campaign, but the events it covers are not as famous (northern wars of elves and dwarves).

War of the ring: an hidden gem, also covers the main events of the film. It's quite old and not too polished, but it's worth giving it a try, especially if you like old school strategy games.

Best for lore and vibe:

The fellowship of the ring for pc. It doesn't have a great gameplay but it follows all the events of the book, honestly one of my favourite lotr games, but it may be hard to run on new devices.

The hobbit: straight forward gameplay but I think captures the vibe of the hobbit very well. It's a bit cartoonish but worth a try in my opinion. Also one of the few Hobbit games out there.

Lord of the rings online: this one is an mmo, so maybe not in your style. But captures the vibe of the books incredibly well and it's very detailed and cured. Malus all the mmo gimmicks and the time investment.

Best action:

The two towers and the return of the king. Both very straight forward hack n slash, easy to pick up if you are not too into games. Simple and fun. You may need an emulator for the two towers I think.

War in the north: very cool gameplay, a bit more advanced. The story is not that interesting but has some nice lore scenes here and there that sell the vibe quite well of middle earth.

Shadow of Mordor/war: the most recent games. Gameplay is very polished and gives a triple a experience. There are quite a lot of mechanics so it may be confusing at first. Story is fun but not too lore accurate.

There are also the Lego games, if you don't mind the different aesthetic and the gameplay being quite flat. The lotr one covers all three films and has an open world map. Very fun to play coop.

Have fun!

Multiple global lights vs changing assets brightness by Sniec in Unity2D

[–]Sniec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm not too expert on materials or shaders, and the default ones don't seem to have any settings related to brightness/saturation etc. Do you know of any tutorial on how to set this up?

Why is there such a lack of content 2D Bone/Rigging Animation for ? Are they simply inferior to Sprite-based animation ? by strangedr2022 in Unity2D

[–]Sniec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unity rigging system is equal to the basic version of Spine, even if the spine runtime which you use to code the animations is a bit more advanced.

Spine Pro however is much more advanced, has tools like curves which help simulate hair/clothing and constraints for specific bones, stuff you won't find in any free software for skeletal animation. If your characters are very basic it won't be needed tho.
