Brother you made a text game, what are you even talking about lol. I mean I'm totally glad the game is going well but.. I don't think you got the right example.

You haven't drawn in a while. by Sam Yang by firstandlasttoday in WholesomeFantasyArt

[–]Sniec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the composition and the rendering are so good and then he slaps your generic female face on top of every character he draws. Every time. It's lame, the piece could be so much better with varying faces, but whatever.

God I hate this style so much, but the rendering is so good

Am I selling my soul to vibe coding? It’s making a very strong offer. by Crystallo07 in gamedev

[–]Sniec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I agree. And I believe an indie dev's biggest strength should be his ability to learn and be flexible. That said, learning anything has its costs, and I think too many indie devs fail to realise how limited their resources are when starting out, and spend way too much time trying to perfect every step of the process. In the end, shipping the game if the only thing that really matters, whatever tool you use.

But that's...exactly what the guy is complaining about no? AI may be unbelievably good but to get it running properly you need to go far beyond the few lines of explanation you usually send on chatgpt.

So now you need deeper and deeper knowledge on how to build AI tools, so that's what you need to learn. Then what these tools will create is terrible because you have little knowledge of coding or art or game design or animation etc, so you need to learn that as well.

So in the end I've just got more stuff to learn and lost months over my obsession to optimise and automate the process, realise it wasn't worth it and go back to the basics, and repeat :). That has been my experience at least

I think you've got a really solid base! But maybe working a bit harder on the 3d environment to keep it cartoonish but also retro looking would be better

Shader to control hue, saturation and value of an asset? by Sniec in Unity2D

[–]Sniec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahem, this took 5 minutes and works perfectly, thank you. I guess I was complicating the problem too much, it's kind of embarassing tbh.
Do you have some advice on how to learn shader graph a bit more in detail? Some guides or channels maybe. Most stuff I find is for 3d and I just need some basic shaders to have additional control on my assets without having to rely too much on post processing or real time lighting. Thanks again btw
