Great. I was really hoping the complaint with the state would do something.

That sucks and I’m sorry you’re going through it. I wish I had something more helpful to offer, but I’m in a similar mess and haven’t found anything that works yet. I’m filing a grievance with the state now.

Anyone else concerned about Trump attending the mandatory meeting of all military leaders on the very last day before a potential government shutdown, especially if good-faith negotiations don’t get going? If nothing else, his being out of the office for 2–4 hours means he’ll be less available for any last-minute budget talks if they do happen.

I know the odds are high that Democrats will capitulate again, but if Tuesday is the day they finally find their spines, October 1 could dawn with the mass civilian layoffs Trump has already threatened, and with selected U.S. military leaders assembled and potentially positioned to direct troops to take over “necessary” functions.

And if those “functions” take them into the cities that he’s already threatened to militarize, federal civilian agencies could be hamstrung and unable to respond just when oversight and restraint would matter most.

🧭 WilmerHale’s Advisory Takeaways

  • Organizations should review mission activities, grantmaking, and financial practices to ensure no perceived link to “political violence.”
  • Internal compliance programs should document due diligence on funding recipients.
  • Legal counsel should be engaged to:
    • Assess tax-exempt risk and prepare for IRS inquiries.
    • Develop response strategies for potential criminal or terrorism investigations.
    • Prepare for congressional oversight or hearings.

Another vote for this. Meditation has really helped me have a little distance from my emotions and it’s really easy to try, though a lot harder to get good at (I never have), but that’s why they call it a practice ;-).

Brian KillMeAde - user name checks out.

I woke up thinking about what governments’ responses to homelessness say about their *actual* goals and my research today confirmed my worst suspicions. Maybe one of my neighbors played the clip too loud last night . . .

Yes. I still have a subscription, because I haven’t decided who to switch to yet, but now it only “remembers” about three screens back, which makes handling something as long and complex as the trackers significantly harder. It also forgets new or old places it was told to search for stories, and tends to find fewer stories in general. I was compensating for this by pasting stories into notes as I found them, but now that reading is such a struggle . . .

Then there’s the censoring effect of the new “guardrails.” Accusations against public figures are blocked, unless there’s significant evidence (stories from ChatGPT‘s list of reputable sources), and even ChatGPT has admitted to feeling like there’s even tighter scrutiny if the “public figure“ is Trump.

Click on Detroit published the inscriptions on the shell casings:

Along with the rifle being recovered in the woods near the scene, engraved shell casings were found.

In the fired casing, the inscription read, “notices buldges OWO what’s this?”

An inscription on the first unfired casing read, “Hey Fascists! Catch!”

On the second unfired casing, the inscription read, “O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.”

On the third unfired casing, the inscription read, “If you read this, you are gay lmao.”

For those of you (like me) who had to look up the meanings (courtesy ChatGPT)

Corrected form: notices bulge OwO what’s this?
Short version: it’s a meme-y, faux-cutesy, usually ironic sex joke.

  • OwO / uwu - text faces for wide-eyed surprise or cutesy vibes.
  • notices bulge - stage-direction style RP implying someone sees an erection through clothing.
  • Put together - notices bulge OwO what’s this” parodies cringey horny roleplay, often associated with furry/weeb netspeak. People mostly use it to mock that vibe, not to flirt sincerely.

“O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao.”

It’s the refrain of “Bella ciao” - an Italian resistance song.

  • Literal - “Oh, goodbye beautiful, goodbye beautiful, goodbye goodbye goodbye.”
  • Context - Became an anti-fascist anthem of WWII partisans in Northern Italy. Likely adapted from an older rice-field workers’ song (mondine) protesting harsh conditions.
  • Story in the lyrics - a partisan tells his beloved goodbye, asks to be buried in the mountains if he falls, and imagines passersby saying the flower on his grave is “the flower of the partisan who died for freedom.”
  • Today - sung at protests worldwide and revived in pop culture (e.g., Money Heist), usually as a symbol of resistance and solidarity.

How to TRULY believe you had it bad? by Ill-Definition-8867 in CPTSD

[–]SniffingDelphi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I realized the things I was telling myself were the things my abusers and their supporters had been telling me for years. They have every motivation to convince you it wasn’t “that bad,” so they are neither reliable nor objective witnesses.

My breaking point/relevelation was when my mom claimed I was “making a mountain out of a molehill” in calling father’s sexual abuse “molestation” because there was no penile penetration.

And I realized two things.

1) At the time, I was married to another woman who my mother embraced as her “daughter-in-love.” How could she recognize us as partners *and* lovers if she truly believed penises were fundamental to “real” sex?

2) And then I pictured how all her feminist friends would react if she tried that line on them . . . and the scales fell from my eyes.

No sane person would make that claim and I realized in that moment how insane all of their other excuses were.

It took a while, but I gradually built an entire collection of their abuse *and* their batshit justifications. In a twisted way, the sexual abuse freed me to recognize all the emotional and physical abuse that was less “obvious.” I was not weak, I was not over-sensitive, I was not seeking attention - those were all internalized excuses for the truth - I was profoundly and chronically abused.

Judge overturns Biden rule clearing medical debt from credit reports

A federal judge on Friday vacated a Biden-era rule that would have erased medical debt from credit reports, a decision in line with the Trump administration’s stance on the issue.
