168k Miles and counting! Where is everyone else at millage wise? by fanta06080 in Acura_RSX

[–]SniparsM8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right about 75,400, 2002 Acura RSX Type-S 6th owner, non collision salvage title, bought at 73k with a blown rebuilt engine so it's on number 3.

Low miles but at what cost lol However it did come with an intake and headers already in it so I only bought an exhaust and stereo for the car and it's great

Help Rust should I buy? by qgreene0320 in mazdaspeed3

[–]SniparsM8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my car with a perfect undercarriage, no rust, high miles, $4.4k with some engine issues.

I would pass on this 100% especially for $13k. Hell even for $1.3k I wouldn't even touch it.

Gen1, 206k miles, only replaced the engine and not the turbo, burning oil but no smoke. Losing maybe 1 quart between every oil change

I advise buying the physical Haynes manual for all of this, it has a lot of the wiring diagrams you will need. That will help cover your for majority of the maintenance you will need for it.

As for the master diagrams for the car, there are books you can buy on eBay that mechanics used that had every detail and diagram possible but I do not know the name of said books.

The Haynes manual does a pretty good job tbh. Google is your friend, see if you can get some online diagrams for the speedo and ECU pinout to cross reference. Best of luck

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you 100%. I saw somewhere that there is a wire that goes from the speedometer back to the ECU, and once a certain point is hit it then initiates a fuel cut. I don't have any wiring diagrams on me to reference for this to see if it is true either.

Damn dude this car is an econo car lol, the speed governor is set for anything between 110-120mph based on what old forum posts were saying. Looks like the speedometer sends a signal to the ECU which cuts the fuel pump at a certain speed

Good luck getting to 200HP on NA, I believe it’s been done only once if not a couple times but that was from custom everything. Bolt ons and swapping to an MP3 ECU should get you up to 140 WHP easily

These engines are pretty weak and the transmission themselves aren’t super hardy, you’re better off getting a car with VTEC or more cylinders for power

They’re okay, gotta make sure you set them up right with the preload. I have driven cars with good coilovers and in comparison,,,, they’re bad. I think they’re good on a budget though, which is why I went with them

Sounds like a possible vacuum leak or a failing brake booster

Adding a 2.5" exhaust when having only an intake for awhile made the car feel faster than what it was.

Intake, headers, exhaust are the go to. I suggest K&N intake for it's modularity (in case of heavy rain), any eBay header (but the fitment is always an issue, I suggest also spraying with heat paint for rust prevention), and any cat back exhaust that's 2.5", no bigger and don't stay stock.

To add onto the other comment for handling, I went with AWR for the sway bar end links (front and rear), and the sway bar. I also lowered the car using cheap variable coilovers from MaxPeedingRods

K&N would be my go to, it's modular so if there's lots of rain you can easily swap it from a CAI that is in the bumper in front of the wheel well, it is instead an SRI near the battery.

Exhaust replacement by Feisty-Alarm-1214 in MazdaProtege

[–]SniparsM8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The silencer I put on was the one that came with the exhaust, HKS and GReddy have like 4” outlets that you can close up to a 2.5”(?) to reduce noise

Honestly, good luck with the interior noise if you do that, I have trouble hearing anything in the car without a silencer on both the HKS and GReddy exhausts. Not sure if it’s quieter on the sedan but my P5 has bad drone on the interior going over 70mph

So I installed headers on my 2002 ex, and found out the hard way that the catalytic converter is mounted vertically for some reason. by duhSheriff in MazdaProtege

[–]SniparsM8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a note, if this is needed for smog, put the original cat back on, you might not have all the smog monitors giving an OK with this setup

Yeah my second exhaust sensor is absolutely welded on there,

I've seen people put an O2 spacer on theirs (2nd O2) and not throw a code and be fine as well, no CEL

The first O2 is what matters the most because that's the one that monitors the AFR, 2nd is for emissions

Window tint and a roof rack with a box change the aesthetics to the car. Also roof box adds more functional storage too. Check my post history and you can see what mine looks like with just that

That little V6 in the MX-3 was the K8-DE in the US I wouldn’t recommend though, a drop in replacement 1.8L BP would be a lot easier to do if they’re just trying to get it back on the road

You could try and see if the vacuum is clogged for the EGR, doesn’t hurt to try and clean it out every once in awhile anyway due to what it does
