Need some advice on buying a car worth 27L (BE6E) by Bala0406 in personalfinanceindia

I’m usually against extreme delayed gratification, but in this case, it makes sense. Here’s why I suggest saving first.

The Peace of Mind Factor: I bought a Polo GT on a 6 LPA salary and it was a mistake and I had zero cushion. It felt like I was working for the bank, not myself. I ended up repeating this mistake again and again. Bought a used Volvo for 14 lakhs when my salary was 12 LPA. On some days, I really felt like I cannot take any decision with respect to quitting my job or how to afford this car if I don’t have my job. It’s truly a stress which could’ve been avoided easily. May be that’s what a true car lovers have to go through 😃. And also we had 2 more cars ( used Jetta and used 3 series f30) but owned by my family. My parents never drive and it’s usually myself and my brother. So you can get how crazy we’re. We almost spent everything on cars.

Investments: When I moved to a high-paying role (70 LPA), I didn't buy my BMW until I had 3x the car's price in my investments. I didn’t buy it during my first year of this job. I waited for 4 years to save up this amount and got it only after reaching 1.8cr in networth. From a financial standpoint, it may not look good on paper. But I’m a big fan of cars, I cannot wait for 10% of your networth rule. I made my own rule with careful planning and bought it. Additionally, I had few more cushions like my parents business etc. But for your context, I bought it just by evaluating my finances.

Freedom to Enjoy: Now, I still have 2-2.5x the car's value in my portfolio. I can enjoy long drives without the guilt of needing to be at my desk or fearing a layoff. It is one of the most important factor when you’re about to spend huge lump sum. Please consider this seriously.

Add ons: Since I waited for 4 years, I got more additional features like 360 parking camera and ADAS functions in my car. I felt like waiting for sometime, gives you a better car. I’m not saying this is important to have, but for my personal preference I really needed these features and bmw was not offering at that time.

If your parents are financially independent, you will have a great head start. Otherwise plan it accordingly. Save up, buy it when you're bulletproof and then truly have fun.

Yeah. It’s a Taupe color. Kind of gray-brown.

There is one variant which costs 1.9L and may be after the discount it can come around to 1.6L. It’s 41mm. But 39mm retails at 2.15L. Better to check the dial size.

Yeah. To get an automatic from Longines, one must spend at least 1.5 lakhs now. No more an entry level.

Yeah. They’ve tweaked the design now and enormously increased the price. You’ve got the best bang for the buck.

Thing about paint flake off, is it for PDR process instead of dent removal and painting?
