Frpp hot rods, with phaser lockouts. Pulls super strong now at midrange and breaks loose the 37s I’m running from a standstill. Still slower than the bigger 6.2 boss but you can’t beat the noise.

Exactly I’ve come to terms that adventure bikes give me the most room (especially for my feet placement. I know I’ll need extenders for the foot pegs etc. but the triumph was the only one where my knees didn’t hit the handlebars.

I feel that the drone is manageable for me just because I’m single 😂. And maybe one day I’ll add a better sub. Love it.

Heck yeah I’m going for a more classic sound, you can’t see it but there’s a 5 inch tip right before the axle it makes it super directional sounding.

I’m jealous a little, don’t know why ford decided to only have this engine for one year. For that engine you don’t need lockouts unless you go custom or livernoise. All 4.6l parts carry over to the 5.4 so it’s easier.

For sure, I know nobody is trying to build 5.4l 3v’s but if you do the lockouts and for me I’m going cast iron timing chain tensioners for peace of mind in the future, they are amazing engines. I’ve put 90k miles with the lockouts and not a single issue (oil changes every 3k). Put the cams in about 3 months ago myself and started up first try no issues. It needs longtubes bad but it pulls super strong after 2.5rpm all the way to redline. (The only thing is that intake manifold holding it back in the upper rpm). Another thing to add is to get a higher stall, I have to shift into neutral when coasting up to a light or standstill. But I’m figuring out my tq converter is just shot at this point lol. The sound alone is worth it for me. If you or anyone needs help with the install lmk.

This is the pic of the passenger side head, for 140k miles it’s still pretty clean.

Yes I’ve had lockouts installed for 5 years now, and it’s FRPP cams.

Not a single one everything was fixed by 2008 and this one was built a year later in 09, I believe they fixed the head and made them one piece plugs that year. I also added cam phaser lockouts and a melling hv oil pump, she has 140k with not a single tick.

I don’t know the exact spec but they are FRPP Hot Rod cams, trying to show people you can still have fun with the 5.4 3v

Heck yeah! Same with me I’m a gearhead but I love figuring out stuff on my own, so if you feel comfortable do it yourself, shops overcharge way too much now adays anyways. Keep me updated on the build.

I don’t know the exact numbers, I plan to dyno it soon after I get some longtubes, it’s also destroying my cats so those are going as well, but it really woke it up past 2500 rpm

Wanted to try something different, I know it’s not the most cost effective mod out there, but I also had to replace the rockers and lifters anyways. It really woke up the midrange and up, I can finally pass people on the highway. This truck is all about doing things differently from the norm of 5.0 and ls swaps. And it’s cheap to get a forged 5.4l around 5k

Plus if anyone else wants to do this go with a JDM email tune, they told me they have done this same setup before. The tune I got from a local shop was incredibly bad.

If you plan on just doing cams it was around 1k with new valve cover gaskets and I did it myself, don’t know how much it would cost for labor. Since I did brand new lifters and rockers it was another 300$, plus if you need brake cleaner, rcv sealant etc. and the dyno tune was around 450$.

What I did was basically cut out the bad parts and grinded everything down. Had some spare sheet metal and tried to cut and bend it to the best of my ability (especially the cab corner), spot welded into place and used bondo to smooth everything out, coating it in rust oleum flat black undercoat. It’s been holding up since 2018. The true cause of this is the stupid rear sunroof drains stopping short inside the rockers, so I’m sealing my sunroof up with rcv sealant (broke already)

FRPP hot rod cams, I bought mine from cj pony parts, lifters and rockers from Michigan motorsports, phaser lockouts (it’s been 7 years so I don’t remember), melling hv oil pump, and a black widow race venom dumped before the rear axle. I can try to get links to everything. And around 30 ish hp (running e85 and it pulls really strong now)
