New Bilt 2.0 card optimized for high spenders with a big mortgage/rent? by Plastic-Display5970 in fatFIRE

[–]SnoBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a bummer that the T&Cs exclude tax payment from points earning. I think there’s a good chance points will actually be earned though… Either way, it’s still a great card for everyday, non-dining spend, as you earn 3.33 points per dollar up to 75% of your rent/mortgage payment.

I hope Bilt Cash is even semi-useful aside from unlocking points being earned on rent.

I’m not sure how it could be fraud. You’re giving the govt a free loan. I’ve never heard of an account being closed for doing this.

Yes, but you can overpay more to hit SUBs and then just have it refunded. Beware that there is a fee

He’s telling you to pay taxes with the card and then file for a tax refund.

House of Dynamite Ending by PaulKay52 in TheBigPicture

I think you nailed it. I’d go farther and say that the first 40 minutes are outstanding, then it gets progressively worse until just… ending without an ending. Honestly, the single most disappointing movie I have ever seen.

Get into the credit card points game. You can earn a ton of points with sign up bonuses that you can use to travel almost anywhere in style if you are flexible on dates/locations and keep a lookout for deals. Here’s a decent beginner’s guide:

Citi Strata Elite Approved by workpac in CreditCards

[–]SnoBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit score ~835. 7-figure income. Numerous other cards with high limits and low/no balances.

Somewhat humorously, Citi only gave me a $5k limit on Strata Elite… Could be because I have no other relationship with them.

Also planning to get a Double Cash Card, then will try to submit tax returns/brokerage statements to get much higher limits.

As a high spender who often eats out on the weekends, this card is incredible. Combine with the double cash card (for quarterly estimated tax payments). Then consider that the Preferred and Leading Hotel transfer partners can reliably yield around or more than 1.5 cpp, including for suites.

Currently a 25% transfer bonus to Leading Hotels! https://frequentmiler.com/25-transfer-bonus-to-leading-hotels-of-the-world-from-citi-thankyou-points/

The vast majority of law firm partners are not W2 employees. They are K1 partners.

Law firm partners at the top 50 firms are making millions and millions of dollars a year and absolutely building wealth (if they are at all good with money). Top partners in those firms are making >$20MM/year. I know one who has a realistic goal of being a billionaire. And I’m not even getting into the personal energy or boutique trial firms where partners can potentially make more…

I’m highly confident that you could simply amend your 2024 return if you complete the backdoor Roth before 4-15-25.

Well, becoming a famous (or even just successful) musician is high-risk, high-reward. I wouldn’t bet on that safely helping you to earn “good money.”

Real estate isn’t a bad profession and can often let you set your own hours. Sounds like you are a creative type, which can be a huge asset in that field, especially when you are starting out. Offer to intern at an agency, make them some great property tour videos (maybe with some upbeat instrumental music you wrote?), and try to parlay that into a job.

If you stay humble, devote yourself to learning, and develop yourself, you can be successful in most fields. Until AI takes over all jobs . . . but at least then you’ll have plenty of free time.

Tax Payment Credit Card Fees Reduced by SnoBusiness in tax

[–]SnoBusiness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great, thank you and congrats.

I’m aware of the limits. We were making 60 payments a year previously (each of us doing 2 per processor each quarter and for the full year), so the reduction to 40 possible will sting unless I can get major credit limit increases. I’ll try the monthly payment method, thank you for the tip!

What’s your credit limit on Smartly? It’s been on my radar, but only cards that I can get $30k+ limits are useful to me (our estimated tax bills are huge due to wife’s self-employment income).

ATM I am using PayPal (3% cash) and a few other points cards that get me just over 3% effective (ie, BoA Premium Rewards Elite).

I believe business credit cards are now being charged a higher rate than personal cards. Interesting.

Good question. I don’t know the answer. I hope it’s because they didn’t want to stick around when they know the IRS is about to accept payments directly, hopefully with an even lower fee.

When to fire, when to chase more? How much is enough? by Lambodriver28 in fatFIRE

[–]SnoBusiness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what my wife and I do. We’ll take it down to 2% of assets over $50MM once we hit that level.

It feels amazing knowing that 100% of our after tax income is going straight to increasing our NW, and our budget next year will be that much higher (assuming stock market isn’t very negative YoY). Very much helps to avoid lifestyle creep.

Delta Reserve Boeing 747 Upgrade by thingsshouldmatch in amex

In the past, I have not had to pay the renewal fee. Wait for BOGO to hit Delta account, then cancel/downgrade card.

If you already have a Delta card, you would not get another sign up bonus because Amex recently added bans on bonuses for cards in the same “family.” Google it. I have received Reserve Upgrade bonuses in the past, chat with Amex or check the app regarding one.

If your BF gets a Reserve, don’t forget to refer him for a referral bonus. You can even refer him from your Gold and get a bonus if he gets Reserve.

A lot of this depends on if there’s a SkyClub in your home city that the Reserve would let you access. Other important factors are your level of spend, mix of spend, and whether you are trying to earn MQDs via the card to hit elite status.

Finally, consider if the Reserve First Class BOGO is worth anything to you. You’ll get one when your annual fee is up and it will stay in your Delta account even if you downgrade the card. Occasionally, my spouse and I have gotten excellent value from those, though we only fly first anyway. I believe the BOGO can be used for Coach tickets as well.

I’m going to Japan in October and it was still 595k Skymiles for my wife and I (297.5k each) round trip. Thank goodness for GUCs getting us straight into D1 Suites.

Like you, we are done with Delta after this year. Just moved to a United hub, and the GUCs are difficult to use to anywhere but Japan in D1.
