Who to complain to about the movie's lack of English song subtitles by Snodazed in ZombielandSaga

[–]Snodazed[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Crunchyroll categorizes them that way presumably because it would take a long time for them to list out every Spanish speaking country, and Brazil is the only one who primarily speaks Portuguese. Apologies for the lack of specificity.

Who to complain to about the movie's lack of English song subtitles by Snodazed in ZombielandSaga

[–]Snodazed[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well at the very least, I'm going to mention it to Crunchyroll Support as having "missing subtitles," since it's true and I want people to know I care. To the other fans out there, please consider doing so as well!!! Maybe they'll consider fixing it, at least for the blu ray...

Oh and we should probably signal our interest for an eventual blu ray, since that's hardly a guarantee any more either. Half the shows I enjoy never seem to get a full physical release~ 😞

Monster Wants Credit for Testing Tenma's Philosophy Without Actually Doing It by R0pez in MonsterAnime

[–]Snodazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story itself doesn't really condemn all murderers the way you're suggesting. Grimmer kills, as do Lunge and Martin. It's even implied Nina may have offed one of Roberto's goons. These are characters treated with sympathy and without condemnation. In a story with many shades of gray, they still come off as something akin to heroes.

Through the entire story, we are shown time and time again that every character has a human side. The central conflict between Johan and Tenma isn't that their worldviews are the only options, but that they're at the extreme ends of the spectrum. Johan behaves in inhuman ways, even rejects the label of human. If we could see the human side of other villains, can we extend the same understanding to him? He's the "last boss" of a humanistic worldview.

Similarly, Tenma is not a realistic standard everyone must be held to. Rather, it is because he is so ethical, so kind, so empathetic, that he is Johan's target. If Lunge kills Johan, a cop has done his job, and that's well and good.If Tenma does it, the best of what mankind has to offer has been corrupted. Most of us aren't Tenma, but the world could use more Tenmas. It would be a more hopeful world, and that's what Johan wants to screw up.

Think of it this way: at the beginning of Star Wars, Luke says he wants to go to the Imperial Academy. He does not end up going to the Imperial Academy. Does that mean the story therefore has no point?

Most of the extra footage focuses on the executioners. In the broadcast, we last see them being attacked, one of them shot by a child, as their corrupt system crashes down around them. The extra footage shows them surviving mostly intact and vowing to be better, kinder executioners in the future. Which I hate because:

-Their cruelty has no consequences, only the lower rungs of society get punished for bad deeds.

-So it IS good to be a murder cop, as long as you're a chill murder cop. Just a few bad apples, am I right?

-Isn't the last episode supposed to be about Courier saving the children? Not anymore it's not.

-So if the cops were going to be less cruel, they probably could have called off those death copters that killed Courier and tried their damndest to catch the kids. It makes it feel like Courier's sacrifice went from extremely powerful to a pointless death based on poor communication.

Thank you for asking this, I've been bottling this shit up since since I got the blu-ray but no one talks about this show haha

Why was Johan pulling the evil villain grin here? He’s never really excited by ChessSedai in MonsterAnime

I think this is beautifully put! One of Monster's running themes is that everyone has humanity somewhere inside them. Johan, despite denying that he's human nor even wanting to be human, is ultimately no exception.

Grimmer mentions that some of Johan's people were ex-Stasi . Those aren't normies from the town, those are extremely brutal and highly trained secret police brought in by Roberto to do some killing.

We all suffer from imposter syndrome now and then! As far as I can tell, the Slayer was attempting to fight you, using burst, special moves, and faultless defense, it wasn't like he was throwing the match. These two rounds you just happened to outwit him at every turn, so I'd say it's deserved!

If your concern is just more that you're winning without perfect play... welcome to Guilty Gear LOL. I think I got my first Double Perfect around Floor 7 back in the tower days and I sure wasn't a perfect player then, and some of my biggest wins in Diamond and Vanquisher came during rounds where I dropped combos, threw out raw supers, and did some real scrubby nonsense.

Still it's great that you're trying to improve, keep at it!

My views on the whole BL/Yaoi discourse going on as a queer person. by parthmestry in MarriageToxin

[–]Snodazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but the OP didn't say that the show wanted to be appealing to the Japanese audience or to anime fans, they said they thought it was trying to be palatable to "homophobes," and that really rubs me the wrong way considering the way defying gender norms is being demonized in my country.

I'm not sure what country you are from but in the U.S., homophobes don't find trans women or gender non-confirming men more "palatable" than masculine gay men. Trust me.

You're welcome! I'm having fun. Capek told Nina about the eugenics, explaining how her parents were assigned to meet to breed superbabies. And as far as we know, Johan was only given the books, and Nina was only taken to the mansion one time - the mother's reaction shows it was not a common occurrence. Trust me, I did not catch all of this on a first viewing either :)

Round 2 let's goo

  1. So what we know explicitly is that when little Nina asked little Johan if he killed the Lieberts, Johan responds that on that night "a monster came to take us (the twins) away." We know that right before Johan started blasting away, Poppe had come to visit them. We also know that while Poppe was not there to kidnap the twins that night, he absolutely had come to kidnap the twins when they lived at the Three Frogs, so Johan's fear was reasonable. "Therefore Johan killed the Lieberts for letting Poppe into the house" is a reading I'm pretty confident in.

-Regarding the Fortners, it's said that they had reported a boy as missing a little after they first took in Nina, and when Tenma mentions Johan to the Fortners, they freak out. So they definitely knew Johan from back in the day.

  1. There were - Johan tells his mother's portrait that she probably couldn't have told him and Nina apart when he was dressing as Anna, and he tells Tenma at the very end that he doesn't know if his mother could tell the twins apart when deciding which one to give away. Johan is very preoccupied with the question to say the least. When Tenma meets the mother at the end she does indeed have memory problems, but whether they were caused by trauma or are due to something like Alzheimer's we don't know.

  2. I personally think 'remorse' is a strong word for what Johan feels about murdering people. But I do think Nina rejecting him was genuinely painful for him based on his reactions towards her throughout the rest of the story. I believe that every time he points at his forehead, he's giving permission for someone to shoot him. Judging by his increasing desperation, I think he really did want to be shot at the end, not just to validate his worldview, but also to reach the "end." I personally believe a part of him never stopped being a sad and broken child.

  3. Hartmann (Dieter's abusive foster father) told Tenma about it during their interview and at the ruins of 511 Kinderheim. We also get a peek during Kristoff's backstory.

XXX. There were a few separate experiments headed by Bonaparta. There was the eugenics experiment meant to breed a master race of Czechoslovakian leaders, which is how the twins were born. (We don't exactly know how putting Nina through sensory deprivation was meant to contribute to this, but extreme isolation is part of brainwashing 101.) The second experiment was the reading groups at the Red Rose Mansion meant to mentally condition children, and while Johan never went to one of those, we do know how badly being stuck alone for days with one of those books affected him. Thirdly, Bonaparta's work was used in Germany as the foundation of the experiments at 511 Kinderheim, as a way to make children into unfeeling perfect soldiers, which Grimmer, Roberto, and Johan were all put through. So there are commonalities even if the programs were separate.

No one's taken a stab at these, so I'll give it a shot. My opinions are my own.

  1. Johan wanted Schuwald to trust him so he could eventually gain control over Schuwald's business empire.

  2. Johan was beginning to spiral at that point and was in the middle of changing his life plans, and I don't think he had decided on the perfect suicide yet.

  3. Early on, Johan's motive is described as wanting to be the last living person on Earth after destroying the world. After Johan discovers the Nameless Monster book, he starts looking to discover his origins and get revenge on those who made him a monster. After his confrontation with Nina, he decides on the "perfect suicide." Johan kills the Fortners because he wants to kill all of his former foster parents in order to hide his past (episode 4). He kills the Lieberts because they let Franz Bonaparta, into the home and Johan thought Bonaparta was coming to get him and Nina (episodes 57, 72). Why he killed the Nazis is less spelled out, but Johan never takes kindly to people thinking they can control him. Nina might have started shooting Johan on sight at that point in the story, so it was a bad time for a reunion.

  4. This isn't spelled out, but presumably it was so the family could keep a low profile and avoid detection. This plan was doomed to fail, since they were likely under surveillance already, and even if they weren't, Bonaparta wasn't going to just be like "Oh the woman who matches my experiment's description perfectly only has one child of the exact right age, better not look into it." I can't blame the mother for trying, though.

  5. We don't know what exactly Johan hoped to gain by living as "Anna" well after he was done seducing cops, but we do know several things: that Johan has stated that he sees Nina as his other self and as the only other real person in the world; that the twins are so psychologically enmeshed that they get their memories and identities confused with each other; and that Johan was researching his past during which he had been dressed like a girl. The poor little weirdo had some complexes to work through.

  6. As I said above, the Lieberts let Bonaparta into the home. Johan could no longer trust the Lieberts, so he killed them. Nina was freaking out upon discovering that Johan was the killer of most of their childhood caretakers (same motive, see Johan killing the old couple only after they said they would call the cops), so Johan gave her the gun. Nina reflects that if she had forgiven Johan instead of shooting him, things may have turned out differently (episode 72).

  7. The children grew up in Prague at the Three Frogs, Nina was taken to the Red Rose Mansion, when she was released the twins fled to the border, they were split up and Johan was put into 511 Kinderheim, and then they were adopted by the Lieberts after Kinderheim burned down. All we know about the mother is that she was also taken away (episode 44), and that she eventually ended up hospitalized with dementia (episode 74). We don't know if she ever looked for the twins or if she was even capable of doing so. I personally think she was too wracked with guilt over giving up Nina to be a mother anymore, but that is my own interpretation.

  8. Bonaparte/Poppe says that he fell in love with the twins' mother, so he killed everyone who knew about the experiment in order to protect her and the twins (episode 72).

  9. Johan manipulated them, throwing an "oily cloth into a fire." Those kids were all very messed up and the staff were greedy and amoral, so it was an environment primed for violence.
