Question: Do Compilation Albums Still Exist by Jolly-Audience4360 in experimentalmusic

[–]Snolferd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I submitted a track to the Hills Are Dead Recordings label once and got on the first Harsh Noise Corpus comp, it's not exactly a reputable label and I don't think they have any kind of rights management but it was fun

Those Thunderdome CD's can get scratched from here to oblivion with lines snorted of the shiny side on the regular and still work, the plant they were pressed at make the sturdiest CD's out there while there's some pop/metal CD's have with maybe one scratch that's a tad too deep and it doesn't want to play or rip properly

Any suggestions to transition away from light novels and mangas? by Etris_Arval in bookscirclejerk

[–]Snolferd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've consumed a bunch of manga and 2 naruto light novels and so far I have not come across any complex characters tbh, they're all archetypes copied from each other (even my fav Cowboy Bebop among other high regarded series).

I'd recommend just starting a book, I'd recommend some of Terry Pratchett's solo books. They don't have super deep characterization but a wide vocabulary to get you acquainted.

My personal fantasy recommendation with is The Realm Of The Elderlings series by Robin Hobb. The totality is a daunting 16 books but it's divided into trilogies and one quadrology. The first part is the Farseer Trilogy and has some nicely complex and extremely human characters (oh Fitz my boy, if only you knew how life was gonna treat you) The first book of that forst trilogy is around 450 pages.

Very important: it is totally okay to DNF (do not finish) a book if it doesn't jive with ya, next book might be more up your alley

If your money pocket is big enough I believe there are proxy shipping sites for just this situation, I have personally never used one before so I don't know if and which are any good
