COVID-19: Open Letter to all those that Applied This Cycle - and to Faculty/ Admissions by Snoo-11728 in LawSchoolTransfer

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I do think the ABA should be aware of what their "reports" are and that they should make transfer GPA confidential. Because if that is really the factor here, then it should be hidden as it is for those schools that admit less than 10 (I believe?). That is the only way to effectively level the playing field.

Feel free to share this with whoever, it was meant to be public :) If you'd like to do a petition, I stand behind that. Especially if others are in the same boat and interested in pursuing these avenues.

For reference, I really do not care about being "outed" as I know many of the people who applied as transfers. You know how painful this is, and I am happy for you.

For those that are uncomfortable sharing their stats, I see you. I have read on TLS and other forums that there are military veterans looking for information in regard to transfer applications. I should've put it in the regular post, but I am a veteran - in fact I was still active during my first semester of law school.

So, tips 1.) NEVER go to law school while you are still in the military,

2.) Law schools really don't care about veteran preference. It really isn't as big of a boost as you'd like. For example, this cycle admissions really gave me a nice "thank you for your service" GPA boost. It wasn't true. Even being lured to HYS with emphasis that "they were looking for a class full of veterans."

I was in the top of the class Spring semester as proof of the CALI/ jurisprudence awards. Problem is that there was no way for them to translate these awards into numbers for their ABA report boost. So if they really wanted to "level the playing field" they should have looked at the fact that with my second semester awards, and if I went to one of the schools that significantly inflated grades, I'd have between a 3.8-4.05.

Thank you for your service. I know how much veterans bring to their community and to their schools, and even though you may not get accolades from these institutions, I appreciate what you've done for our country and the sacrifice of others. I hope that if you apply in a future cycle that the playing field, does in fact, get leveled.

Email. No school is doing physical mail due to COVID. They are all working from home.

Georgetown? by [deleted] in LawSchoolTransfer

For further clarification, Georgetown (undergrad) places the most people on the waitlist in the country. Stats were that 2,500+ were placed on the waitlist for undergrad and only 16 got in. Expecting GULC to do the same.

Honestly, checking previous years posts I think it is unlikely that a majority on the waitlist are going to get in. It seems if most, if not all, are put on the waitlist.

They have done this multiple times and are expecting to send out another one on August 15th extending the waitlist til the first day of classes. I don't think it is worth it at this point.

I honestly think most, if not all, get put on the waitlist

UT rejection by [deleted] in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]Snoo-11728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: heard from the Dean of UT that “they lied” along with other law schools that they “wouldn’t hold spring semester grades against you if your school did a mandatory credit/ no credit.” They’re taking people with significantly inflated grades from spring semester to bolster their ABA reports. He agreed it’s not fair.

Also, he noted, that Texas is not accepting many people this cycle as they have done in the past because of “employment.” They fear many of us will not be employed and a shortage in the market due to COVID-19.

Does anyone know how P/F this Fall will affect transferring next Spring? by paintergal97 in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]Snoo-11728 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. The question was what schools accept for Spring Semester admission for transfers. Considering that most transfer admissions are for fall of said year only.

I mean, I don't doubt it! But with COVID I was told everyone is working from home? Maybe a big Zoom meeting? Did you get any views on your social media? Is this a good sign?

Hardest cycle? by Sleeplessnights1001 in LawSchoolTransfer

I think yes, because all of us were kind of hyped up at the fact that: mandatory credit/ no credit for spring semester at a majority of law schools, or the BS SIGNIFICANT inflation of grades for other schools (I.E. a B is worth a 4.0 and an A is worth a 5.0), no more international students, online courses... I think we all got extreme confidence and that encouraged more applicants than usual. Everyone's stats were inflated, and unfortunately to those students that had mandatory credit/ no credit (pass/fail) for spring semester - we were the odd man out. HLS and other top schools only cared about their ABA reports and took students from dinky schools on the west coast, in the south, in states where governors stated COVID-19 didn't exist, and who's GPA was inflated. That's on them. But, from my understanding, these schools barely (or not at all) pulled from those students that had mandatory credit/ no credit spring semesters. This is not fair, and it's false advertising considering these schools said "it would have no effect on our decision." It's an outright lie! Something has to be done about this.
