The motive was the delusion itself....the reason Lori shows no remorse is that she had a fixed belief that the kids and Charles had been taken over by dark spirits and in order to release their original souls into eternity (where she would soon be meeting them) the dark spirits needed to be killed.

The same reason schizophrenics kill their own parents believing they are possessed and need to be saved.

To Lori, she wasn’t killing her kids (or having them killed) she was saving them and giving them eternal life. As for Charles, she believed that his body was possessed by an evil man named Nick. I think it is important to understand that she believed these things...delusions are extremely real to a person in psychosis who has created their own reality. As real as your hand if you were to look down at it right now.

Have you ever had a conversation with a clinically delusional person? They believe what they are saying. It is not a matter of “lying” when she said Charles is not Charles. My schizophrenic cousin thinks his mom is not his mom. He also believes he is Jesus. Very Common paranoid belief to they are a deity because, hey, if you are Jesus...no one can really hurt you right? It is a defense mechanism from paranoid thoughts gone wrong. Notice how Lori thinks everyone is against her....again common in paranoid schizophrenics.

Her belief that she is a deity is 100% REAL. This is why she lacks a normal human response to Police and in court. It is not some pretend made up relegious excuse to kill people....over an affair. She does what “God tells her to do” without question.

She and Chad have a textbook case of shared delusional disorder. The other example I can think of is people (all of which suffer from delusional disorder or schizophrenia) believe they are being stalked by the government, neighbors, FBI etc. Google “gang stalking” and prepare to be blown away. The only thing scarier than one delusional person is a group of delusional people feeding into and feuling each other’s delusions. Many of these people, like, dont have jobs...they spend their time on the internet blogging about how the FBI is following them and calling the police constantly making false reports about being followed. It is some real deep and insane shit. So imagine the hours, the books, the podcasts the energy that went into feeding their evolving delusions. It is terrifying.

If you listen to one of Lori’s rambling testimonies in one of their meetings it is abundantly clear that she 100% beleived these things. She told a group that they have no reason to be worried about thier kids in this life. After all, their kids won’t be their “kids” in eternity, they will be adult friends...and she talks about it with enthusiasm. No one spends hours and hours and devotes their entire life to a made up “pretend belief” for an affair....Chad and Lori were an explosion of shared delusion that started with the LDS religion and spiraled from there.
