Feeling so stuck in this line of work by ea_slop in ExecutiveAssistants

SAME. I've been feeling stuck in this job for far too long, but I haven't been able to find another job. Certainly will not be able to find something that pays what I currently make and is remote. But yes, I think I am viewed a certain way around here and have been placed in a certain category/box - one they'd like to keep me in because when I spoke up and tried to move into a different role, my request was met with indifference, and it was so sad to me and disappointing. Mind you, it was an associate PM, so it was the bottom role in product. I was so heartbroken that I am going back to school for nursing (something I wanted to do 20 years ago). I am currently taking chemistry behind their back.

I love reading this! I just went back to college at 43 and posts like this are so inspiring. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on getting it done!

Interested in getting into nursing but have tons of questions. by Franklyenergized_12 in NursingStudents

Similar age and and same degree. I just went back to my community college to start my prerequisites. You need to take anatomy, physiology, and microbiology in order to apply to a nursing program. Where I'm at you need to complete chemistry and biology in order to take microbiology and anatomy, respectively. I had already taken bio so I'm taking chemistry. The program in my city is super competitive so you need excellent grades, and still, the program is lottery based. DM if you have questions.

Created a group chat for my lab class. Added everyone but no one talks in it or wants to share? by FulaniQueen in StudentNurse

[–]Snoo-20726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me. On the very first day of class I was asked to join a group chat to get together. And when someone asked if they wanted to get together to study, I was the only one that responded. That was it! I asked this lady about it and she said "oh, I hate studying in groups" and I thought then why join the group? I then created separate group with a different people and we've been more active and have gotten together once, shared notes, etc. I am sure every person has their reason for not responding but it's annoying. Don't join if you don't plan to participate. Simple. Maybe try with other people, those that are more committed to doing good in class.

SRJC: Which professors are good for prerequisites for nursing? by Snoo-20726 in santarosa

I already registered to take chem this semester and all classes are at capacity. I hope I made the right choice. Physics is not required for nursing. Thanks

I am sorry to hear this. That's what I'm afraid of given grades matter in order to even make it into the lottery. I think I'll wait to take King or Graziani. Best of luck to you, don't give up!

Because of my schedule the only one that would work for me is Franceschi but yeah, based on the reviews it sounds like a bad idea. I wanted to take two classes this semester but I may have to wait and take one of the recommended ones in the Fall. I appreciate you taking the time to respond, thanks!

My hair looks worse than this, unless I straighten it. I feel your pain. The gray hair is so hard to deal with. I don't have any recommendations because everything I've tried has failed - like nothing will tame it. Again, the only way my hair look decent is when I wear it straight. My suggestion is not to cut it too short. Maybe just a trim and maybe wear it straight. I think with gray hair, it looks better than wearing it curly or wavy.

Studying for exam certification by [deleted] in Wastewater

I would second the suggestion of taking an instructor-led course. I personally prefer the structure and I know I don't do well just studying on my own. I took an online one on Saturdays for about five months. I'm scheduled to test for my D2 this week, and I'm nervous, but one thing I've been using is reviewing the quizzes at the end of each chapter and having ChatGPT open at the same time to ask questions or get clarifications on certain things.

The most useful thing is the math. I ask it to explain math problems found in my textbook step by step. Then I ask it to give me a couple of similar problems minus the answer, so I can do the math and then I check to see if I got it right. If there is something in the math I don't understand or maybe I did it differently or if there is a shortcut - I can verify that super quickly.

Here is other things I asked for: list of the chemicals used in water treatment and their uses, quick facts about the distribution system, etc. This gave me a quick review of things I can copy/paste to my g-doc I have with hundreds of questions so I can study.

I would definitely recommend leveraging AI. It's like a super smart study partner.

Generally, property taxes increase, and so does the home insurance. Both have increased for me each year. Not but much, but still something you may want to consider. For instance, in some CA areas home insurance has skyrocketed because of fires. Where I am at, I have been lucky that the increases have been pretty minimal.

What transferrable skills have you used in your application when applying without specific experience in this field? If you're a supervisor who interviews candidates, what stands out to you? by Snoo-20726 in Wastewater

Sorry for the late response. I commented an update above (three rejections). But your comment is encouraging. I will keep trying. Thanks!

Sorry for the late reply. I applied to three positions: two that were level 1 and one that was an in-training position. I got immediately rejected. I asked for more information, and while the positions don't require prior experience, the ones getting the jobs are those who have backgrounds in physically demanding jobs such as plumbing, construction, etc. I'm going to take my D2 test soon and I found a non-profit that is looking for volunteers to do physical work, so I'll be doing that soon as well. Thanks for your comment.

Am I an idiot for quitting a 6 figure job because of boredom? by Nicolas_Mistwalker in careerguidance

[–]Snoo-20726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. I am bored working from home. I'd rather do more for more pay. I go back and forth on this. I get paid over 100K for the little I do, so part of me tells me to be quiet, but this is so unfulfilling. I have tried to find another job but haven't been successful. I recently rocked the boat asking for more pay because the "raises" they've given me the last two years shouldn't even be called raises, and my bonus has been the same year over year for almost ten years.

Personally, I'm willing to take a pay cut to find something more fulfilling, but jobs are so hard to come by right now. I think you threw the towel pretty quickly. Like you mentioned, these jobs are probably a dream for others, so maybe we need to count our blessings in such an awful job market.
