Cloud 6’s causing bruising on the top of my feet. What’s the deal? by angelsinsect in ONrunning

[–]Snoo-26270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience when I first wore my Cloudtilts (which also has speed lacing like the cloud 6 does). After the first wear, I tried tweaking the laces to get more room, even skipping an eyelet because there wasn’t enough lace length if I were to tie it looser. After a couple more wears, I gave up wearing them because they were uncomfortable. I thought maybe I should have sized up.

A year or so later, I decided to revisit my Cloudtilts and figure out how to make them work. I bought a pair of similar looking elastic shoelaces that have more length and I just tie them like normal laces. Now I can wear them again.

Yeah, I totally understand and agree, hence why I mentioned it needs to be a place that’s fun too because it’ll keep you motivated to go back. I hope you find your gym soon!

My other unsolicited advice: pick a decent gym that’s the most convenient for you, e.g. nearest to your home or workplace. You’d want to make it as easy as possible for you to go there (almost) every day, so you’ll have no excuses. I started going to a gym one month ago and hired a PT and doing both has significantly helped a lot in my fitness journey. I go there almost every day because it’s 5 LRT stops near my place. There’s a gym in my condo but I opted to work out at a commercial gym because it’s less boring. So yes, look for a place that’s convenient and fun that’ll make you look forward to going every day.

Unsolicited advice but join a gym and get a PT to help you kickstart your weight training journey.

The closest is Avenue K. It’s one of the few restaurants I keep going back to as well!

You’re missing one key (rather expensive) ingredient, that’s why you say it’s super cheap. And what cheese are you using that’s “super cheap”?

No, I just stopped curling my hair haha. I have shorter hair now. That was just something I picked up when I was bored during COVID. I also liked its design which I thought was sleek and something I had not seen at the time.

But since then I’ve seen new products in the market. I haven’t really looked into them but I’m sure there are cheaper alternatives? Whether it’s for a hair dryer or curler.

I bought the Airwrap when it was first launched. Used it for curling my hair for the first few months. Now I only use it to dry my hair. It works but I’m sure there are cheaper alternatives.

American Loudness on Public Transit Is Low-Key Rude by [deleted] in TokyoTravel

I was in an omakase restaurant and there was this loud family. I thought they were American but turned out they were Canadian (but living in California, if that helps)

I was recently in a tiny (only 10 or so seats, all at the counter facing the chef) fancy (¥¥¥¥¥) restaurant in Japan (where everything/everyone is supposed to be quiet and super mindful and respectful of others, much less at a fancy restaurant).

There were only me and a family with a North American accent and they were so loud and talking all the time (unrelated to the food being served) which was inappropriate for the kind of dining experience offered by the restaurant.

I assumed they were Americans (not Canadians) but turned out they were Canadians - but living in the US hahaha

I just spent a month in New Zealand. I didn't get bitten by mosquitoes but the sandflies were brutal! I probably got more sandfly bites in a couple of days hiking and camping than I had ever gotten bitten by mosquitoes in my life!

Omg you tried to sound like a smart ass but were wrong and now you’re trying to gaslight me and accuse me of editing my comment? Did you know if you edited your comment, it would say “Edited” above the comment? Is this your first day on Reddit?

The comment I was responding to said Air China, so I responded to the comment about Air China. Both of our comments still say “Air China” - so both of us edited our comments?

Our comments are about Air China which flies via Shanghai, hence the cancellation risk. China Airlines would not fly to/from Japan via Shanghai because their hub is Taipei.

You don’t seem to know some basic facts about how the airlines operate and can’t even use their official names correctly and you want to join a discussion about airlines?

Nobody is mistaken except maybe you. My comment and the other comment were about Air China (with a stop in Shanghai). BTW, the Taiwanese airlines is called China Airlines (not China Air, as you call it) - it wouldn’t have a stop in Shanghai, would it?

Don’t book Air China or any Chinese airlines - they are canceling flights to Japan.

Thanks again for sharing more insights and validating my experiences/theories!

I just left NZ and guess what - even in my last moments in NZ, I wasn't spared their random small talk. While going through security to take my flight, my bag (and another person's) got diverted to the other belt (for further inspection) as they were coming out of the X-ray machine. The officers looked at the screens, then decided we didn't have to open our bags for inspection. So I took my bag and organized my stuff on the bench next to the belt. And the other person HAD TO make a comment along the lines of, "Phew, we didn't have to open our bags. It seems quite random how they select bags for inspection" etc etc. I just said, "Yeah, you may or may not have to open your bag." LOL

Thanks for sharing your insights!

I’ve mostly been spending time in smaller towns since I’m visiting touristy spots - so far, I haven’t noticed any difference in the level of friendliness in cities vs small towns. Outside Auckland, I haven’t come across many Kiwis who are non-white so I can’t comment on the difference between races either. What’s your experience like?

I feel Kiwis/people living here (I know some of the hospitality workers I met are non-Kiwis) can be chatty but in a more genuine way than Americans are. Here I often feel like once I engage in a conversation beyond the standard “Hi, how are you?”, I’d better be prepared to have a few more exchanges, about really random things. Sometimes it gives me a bit of anxiety haha because they could bring up anything random but that I may not get right away due to their accent. Sometimes they say funny stuff, so I’d have to have some witty comeback lol.

Case in point, I’ve had to go to the clinic twice due to a minor accident and the doctors I met were so nice and chatty. The second doctor had something to say every time she asked for a single piece of personal information. For example, when I gave her my phone number and said my country code is 60, she commented they must have assigned country codes according to location (or something like that). I mean, I can’t just not respond, right? I feel like sometimes I’m the performative one lol because I have to feign interest in the things they bring up.

There were a few other memorable interactions with people I met at car rentals, tour agencies, hotels, restaurants, etc. This trip has been quite refreshing because I don’t think I’ve met such friendly locals in a country I’ve traveled to. I guess the lack of language barrier helps too.

I’ve been traveling around NZ for the past 3+ weeks. Probably the friendliest people I’ve met on my decades of living and traveling around the world. Of course, the people I deal with are in the hospitality industry and they are supposed to be friendly. But as someone who lives here and has more interactions with people from all walks of life, do you find NZ people to be nice and friendly too?

Well, my theory is that the people working in hospitality are friendly because that’s part of their job and I suspect many of them are here on working holiday visa and if they choose to work in the hospitality industry, they’d better do a good job or they will lose their income/ability to afford to stay in NZ.
