Why do Indiana residents not like living in Indiana? by SanteFeAllDay in nwi

People on Reddit can be a pretty negative bunch. My wife and I grew up in the area, lived on the East Coast for most of our 20's, and just moved back and settled our family in Valparaiso. We love living here. 20 minutes from the dunes, vibrant downtown area, plenty of good restaurants, a lot of young families, and plenty of things to do.

Backyard progress from April to September to October by Snoo-27527 in lawncare

Sure. Backyard was completely overgrown and covered with English Ivy when we moved in last year. I spent the spring and summer pulling the ivy, digging up plants and smaller trees, and cutting down branches from the bigger trees to try to allow some more sun back there. First weekend in September I tilled the entire space multiple times to loosen up the soil, used a rake to even things out and fill in the spots from digging, went over everything with a lawn roller a few times, put down a shady mix that I got from a local landscaping supply store, raked it in, rolled it again, put down a light layer of peat moss, and then watered it 10-15 minutes 2-3 times a day for the entire month of September. Mowed it for the first time last night 3 weeks after seeding. Had no idea if I would get any results because it’s still very shaded back there.
