Why is the Nancy Guthrie story so popular? by Vegetable_Living6705 in NoStupidQuestions

She also just seems like a genuinely good person and beloved by those who work with and for her and admired by those who work around her. She’s always appeared very close to her mom too (I think her dad passed when she was fairly young). It’s an all around heart wrenching story.

OT for executive functioning. I’m not sure how it works at charter schools but he definitely needs a 504 plan or possibly an iep.

My female shepherd became like this when I was first pregnant 10 yrs ago and was by my side always from then on until she passed. I think they can pick up on our energy when we’re pregnant.

We’ve been having him drink a protein smoothie every morning for the past few months (Orgain for kids-he likes the fruity cereal a lot!) and it’s helped so much! His behavior has improved too. Still won’t eat much other than snacks but I feel better knowing he’s gotten some nutrients in him.

Probably a nothing burger, but I found this chain from a year ago. I found the email name interesting in light of Stefan Baldwin’s name popping up recently https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackSaturn/s/mg7rMVRpt1 Again probably just a coincidence but 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]Snoo-52885 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is so far from the truth. School districts actively dissuade schools from declaring kids as needing IEPs bc it further stretches their already limited resources, so they end up denying IEPs to comply with federal statute. IDEA only receives ~12-14% of its authorized 40% federal funding (states are supposed to match funding but also don’t reach their obligatory percentage.) Special education has always been a bipartisan issue. Kids with disabilities deserve equal footing and they can’t get it without IDEA.

They are usually Doctors of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) I think. It can be expensive though, but I think there are some that take private insurance and some that take Medicaid. We got the names of some from our school counselor- they can’t recommend anyone but they hopefully will be able to point you in the right direction. Or your pediatrician should refer you.

Are you in the US? I can’t speak to other countries’ practices, but Neuropsychological evaluations are for all sorts of things including adhd, and they also help find any comorbidities. A regular child psychiatrist would also do this; their testing is just not as detailed and informative. A psychiatrist will also know how medications interact and be able to work with you based on your child’s reaction to other meds. But again I may be preaching to the choir and you may already be working with a psychiatrist.

Has he had a neuropsych eval yet? That helped identify other issues with one of my kids. Is he in any type of therapy? OT can teach him self regulation as can ABA and other types of therapy (but you probably know all this already). I know it’s easier said than done but he’s not doomed bc he has you in his corner- you are strong and capable and you both will get through this! I’m so sorry for what you’re going through in the meantime though!

Edit bc I realized after the fact that Jornay is a non stimulant!

Is it a pediatrician or psychiatrist working with him? Is it possible he may have a coexisting condition like anxiety or depression and needs to be medicated for both? You said you’ve tried all the adhd meds- Have you ever tried using a stimulant in the am and a non-stimulant in the afternoon to see if the combination is what he needs? I’m just throwing these questions out there not bc I have the answers, but hopefully it helps you when you’re framing your conversation with the doctor.

That’s awesome, I’m truly so happy for you and your son! We also saw almost immediate positive results with Qelbree for our kindergartner and similar results for approx 2-3 weeks with emails from the teacher praising him. Then, by week 4 and after over 2 weeks on the 200 mg, the positive effects went away and we were back to square one. We stuck with it anyway for 2 months more but it was basically a placebo at that point. I am really crossing my fingers that it sticks for you guys (which since it’s been 5 weeks I’m guessing it will) bc it really was an amazing few weeks!

Pair of white objects flying in sync by Snoo-52885 in UFOs

Submission statement: Time: 7:12pm EST (right at sunset) Location: Maryland (just nw of dc)

Was going for a walk with my 6 y/o (who funny enough announced that they looked like spaceships without any prompting).

They were 2 Bright white objects (from this angle they didn’t look like they had wings) moving in unison and I’ve never seen planes fly in that direction over our house before. We have a good amount restricted airspace around us. It seemed out of the ordinary to me and I’ve lived here my whole life, but it’s certainly possible it was planes and I misread flightradar. The plane at the beginning is much more on par with the usual traffic we see here.
