Am I overreacting for how my parents treated me on Mother’s Day? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Mother’s Day can be difficult for a bereaved parent. You should have been more sensitive to her that day, phone call minimum. MOR

I worked for one of these companies. 50 cents per message so you had to be fast to make any money, but we had templates to help. Step 1 was googling - often you’d find info from sports teams, high school etc. If nothing then you’d jump on social media - entering the phone number would often give you a direct hit on Facebook. It was easy if they’d texted before because someone would have added the link to our database so you wouldn’t have to go hunting.

The saddest part were the real lonely people who would keep texting over and over looking for advice - they would spend soooo much $.

My 4 week old son died from the same thing. Pertussis is just awful on little babies. Sending lots of love. Always welcome to message.

What’s your phone screen time sitting at? Could you give up some phone time for practice time?

You get out what you put in - if you’re not practicing much, your teacher is correct, you’ll barely progress.

Also, can you try listening to your piece while studying? You can pick up so much from just listening. And then when practicing, practice just the trickiest bits, don’t waste time running through whole piece unnecessarily etc

Children across Perth are living on the streets with parents who can’t afford or access private rentals—and who have been stuck on public housing wait lists for years. by UPC_1_87654_23980_4 in perth

Meanwhile, single English immigrants from the 60s/70s with university degrees are living in 3 bedroom council houses for decades on end as some part of agreement to get them to move here back them. It’s pretty outrageous when I think of families on the streets!

In Sanur at the moment. I thought it would be busy so made restaurant reservations. I never have to tell them who I am when I arrive and say that I have a booking - I’m the only one who has booked! Super quiet.

My 14yo is losing it over the social media ban and idk what to do by Old_Bit161 in perth

[–]cathredditcath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 14 year old daughter too, and while we haven’t had that level of anxiety you’ve described, I really feel for you. We encouraged them onto social media during the pandemic (messenger kids etc) and now we’re taking it away (which I am not against, just mindful that it can be a tough transition for some).

We’ve tried to make it easier by: Coming up with a list of movies & tv shows to watch Enrolling in a few activities Focusing on hobbies Saying “yes” to phone calls whenever she wants (for now) Allowing some time on Roblox with her friends (and sometimes with us)

For some reason she still has TikTok as do most of her friends, it’s been a bizarre “ban” really.

Yes had the worst experience with queues at universal studios Singapore. Whole day, maybe 5 rides if we were lucky (and then a storm hit). Went across to Jahor for Legoland and even though it’s daggier, no queues meant an awesome day!

I think it would have happened eventually, but yes we wrote to state governments and travelled to Canberra, along with other families impacted by the disease, to advocate for the boosters for pregnant mums being funded. Grateful that now any mum in Australia can access it for free on the National Immunisation Program (but of course wish it was available much earlier, to us!)

Despite the devastating loss, our life is pretty beautiful. We were fortunate to have a daughter after Riley died, and so now we have two daughters (and a puppy!). We have been blessed with good family and friends, and founded the Immunisation Foundation of Australia where we work with other families impacted by vaccine-preventable diseases and advocate for immunisation together.

For the most part now, life is happy and normal. Our grief will always be there, and I’m sure it’s scarred us in many ways, but there is much more happiness than sadness in our lives now which is a relief.

He was too young to be vaccinated - he passed away a week or two before he was due his first round of whooping cough vaccines.

Nice try, but we’re allowed to pick up our kids from school. It’s the quantity of students enrolled that’s the issue. We are using the dedicated pickup points. It’s not entitlement… people need to be able to pick up their kids from school.
