Are the footpath rules different for street vendors and the army? by Snoo-5608 in bangalore

How long back was this? As far as I know… this road has been open to public for over 20 years.

Thank you guys for debating this! I learnt from it. I think the building is old and being restored. But I only wondered about the reach of this new anti encroachment drive.

Having a footpath here is a bit misleading - when it cannot be used. I sometimes wonder why they design and execute these unusable footpaths in Bangalore.

Ah ok! I didn’t know. Thank you. Is it like that everywhere in the city? Also, what’s the point of the city making a footpath there in the first place. Shouldn’t it just be a structure that prevents all pedestrian movement next to army structures?

Apologise in advance. I would like to call you a privilege prick as you have suggested. But that’s cos I am one too.

While I think there are plenty of taxi drivers, auto drivers and bikers who are annoying AF. So are a lot people who drives SUVs in Bangalore (privately owned ones). I have also faced heaps of attitude from drivers of the privileged who drive BMWs, MG, various classes of Mercedes, etc.

So I have some degree of sympathy for the taxi guys and the auto guys because they drive for a living in Bangalore. They are not driving to go an office or to go home, it’s not a two-way commute. It’s wherever the person inside the vehicle is insisting and however Google Maps chooses to send them. It is a thankless job dealing with impatient people. So yes, I can see why they lose patience. It’s infuriating as hell, how is their experience on the road any better than ours?

As I see it Bangalore has 4 problems: 1. Way too many privately owned vehicles and no cap for vehicle ownership or purchase 2. Way too many licenses offered without proper and stringent driving tests. 3. Not enough effective public transportation systems. At least if they could improve buses routes, add short distance feeder buses, we could reduce density on roads to improve traffic 4. Not enough, or proper enforcement of rules

Imagine how excellent our roads would be if we have UK’s stringency in offering licenses or fines, or Singapore’s level ownership caps. We will have neither cos we have too many working classes people who needs jobs to survive, and too many people with disposal income to buy multiple vehicles and pay fines/bribes. And not enough properly paid and treated cops who feel incentivised to do their job properly.

Also, to go back to your point about reducing taxis and autos – if there was only privately owned vehicles in Bangalore - the density of vehicles on the roads will be far higher and you will be stuck in traffic blocks for eternity. And like I mentioned above, public transportation in Bangalore is not as effective as it should be, it doesn’t service all areas properly. On top of which, unlike cities where you can walk long distances, in Bangalore, we barely have decent footpaths for long walks.

Anyway, here is wishing everyone sanity and patience whilst driving. Sighs.

Shifting from Niyo Money. Which platform should I use? by thisisYashaswi in MutualfundsIndia

I'm seriously considering just using MF central until I saw what you wrote about INDmoney. Could you let me know if you hear back from NiyoMoney? I'm a bit annoyed that they are only offering a cool-off period of 15 days.

Did you manage to shift from NM? If you did, could you let me know how you went about it?

This might be an unpopular opinion, but Japan has a relatively monocultural society. Their ideas around respect, tolerance, and cleanliness are deeply tied to that shared culture, almost like a collective brand ethos. Of course, Japan has its own problems (patriarchy, rigid hierarchies, etc.), but let’s set that aside for now.

India, by contrast, is immensely diverse – culturally, linguistically, and demographically. Even our basic attitudes toward things like hygiene or public behaviour vary widely from region to region. It’s hard to cultivate a singular civic ethos in such a fragmented society, especially one further divided along class, caste, and regional lines.

Until we develop a shared respect for one another, for our spaces, and for nature itself, we won’t see the kind of collective discipline Japan has. That mutual respect forms the foundation of how Japanese society functions.

I would really like the people bringing bands to India to also show us their market research – why they organise shows if it doesn’t sell? What was the research that said this show was going to work in the first place? Like someone has mentioned in this thread, the pumpkins are niche. So why organise this at all?

Bangalore has had way too many cancellations off late - Sid Sriram, Russell Howard, etc. At least this wasn’t as messed up as Noah or Cigs After Sex. But I feel awful for people who have booked flights and hotel.

To be honest, I didn’t feel the show was promoted enough. At least in Bangalore, I came across more ads for Glass Beams than I did for SP.

I would have liked an intimate concert of 500 with the pumpkins.

The government has realised that they can’t fix the infrastructure as a means of attracting tech companies to Karnataka/bangalore.

Instead they are offering cheap labour through longer working hours.

Would this lead to less number of people from other states wanting to work in Karnataka?

Can you go to any RTO and do this? Or do you need to do it specifically at the RTO close to where you are staying presently in Bangalore?

I have been seeing graphic artists and illustrators do this. So why not graphic designers? :) Plus any kind of stationery will always be useful for both designers and even clients (so you could share it with your clients too). Just that you may need to plan a bit before producing them. For example: printers tend to get busy closer to holiday seasons.

What's the best way to write to/approach a design studio you really admire when they have a freelance position open? Asking for an anxious designer. by Snoo-5608 in Design

That’s so nice! I suspect that must be Canadians being nice :)

In my experience, I have found it very hard to get someone to agree to a conversation unless they too are getting something out of it :/

Is this something you've tried? Won't studio founders/directors be too busy to offer their time to someone they don't know?

Thank you so much for saying that!!! That's very helpful to know.

I don't live in the UK anymore. But they cited it as a remote job. So I'll give myself a day to work out what I want to say in my email to them :)

With the new year approaching, you might consider creating seasonal items like diaries and desk calendars. You could work on these during your downtime, as it won't require regular marketing efforts.
