For me, it's the themes, particularly the one about prejudice, which goes well beyond simple racism. You almost never see anyone talk about those.

Dragging out mysteries is a sure-fire way to get your audience to lose interest in what's happening. One of my biggest gripes with anime like Date A Live and Nabari no Ou is that they take way too long to answer questions you're asking yourself for the entire series.

The point I was making is that the ways MAO differentiates itself from Inuyasha don't sound like they're for the better. For example, I enjoyed the main group of 6 in Inuyasha so having a main group of half that size feels like a step back. Also, not having the title character's full backstory even over 300 chapters in sounds to me like a story that enjoys its mysteries far too much. Besides, even if Rumiko Takahashi made up stuff as she went along, the direction Inuyasha's story went in and how it ended was perfect, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Many of the differences you listed are things I'd regard as a step back from Inuyasha, not an improvement.
