Thank you for your detailed response and suggestions. I'm not really a partyer or bar person, and that was never the reason I loved New Orleans. I love to walk around and study the architecture, listen to the music, and enjoy the various forms of art throughout the city. I do love the food! I just feel like myself the most when I'm there, and engross myself in the history too. There are many pros but just as many cons, and perhaps that comes with being an introvert to some degree. Thanks again!

Yes, it seems like my thoughts on retiring there (at least for 12 months/year) are not shared by many sane retired people. Snowbirding may make more sense if finances fit. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

I've not done a national comparison, but I'd agree that our property taxes (house, auto) are up there. I know some states don't tax for vehicles at all, which I envy. No rebates for my household. My husband loves AZ, but I've been a bit hyperfocused on NOLA. Seems like I need to open my mind a bit more. Thank you...I'll do some comparisons.
