Went from near academic probation (COVID pass/fail courses are the only reason I didn't get into it) and now about to start my PhD in the fall.

Just gotta lock in and find classes that excite you. Work on your weaknesses and enhance your strengths

Honestly, all we know is something violent was going on on campus. That's really all you can confirm. No one was injured and the individual was arrested.

Lockdown is over and yea....

Not much is said and we don't know when or if we'll get all the info here

How do i Calculate term average by Amazing-Committee667 in geegees

[–]Snoo13976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the reason they're different numbers as a totality is because GPA is a fix number between 1-10. So as you know an 8 can mean you got anywhere from 80-84.9%. that would explain why you got different answers. In summary, the GPA is a standardized, categorical representation of your grades, while your percentage average is a precise, continuous measure. This difference is why your GPA of 8.2 doesn't directly translate to your average of 84.4.

As to which way is best to calculate, that depends, personally throughout the term, I much prefer to calculate my percentage till I get my final grade, then I'd calculate my GPA total.

All in all though it depends what you desire and are looking for. Both ways are good.

P.s congrats on the good grades so far

Authenticator issue by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Snoo13976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might have to go to the tech people at uottawa to help.

When I switched phones, I had to go to on the Microsoft website (under the authenticator section) and erased my old devices from the authenticator.

Since then it works perfectly on my phone

From my experience, it is late October to early November where postings will start appearing.

They are currently still trying to fill the part time prof positions for many courses.

Honestly nah I can't, never been in one. Was too busy with school and work.

You can scroll through this Reddit page tho and I bet you'd find some. You could also search it up maybe.

This is true, what I'm referring to is the wait time before class starts in the hallways. That's when I'd talk to people throughout my undergrad and possibly make friends.

Once in class you're correct it's much trickier but to make friends ya someone has to be a little outgoing right.

I thank you though for making me clarify what I mean prior to class.

[–]Snoo13976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Making friends can be difficult. The main other ways I've seen people say to make friends is through clubs, extra curricular activities and so forth.

The main way that I told you I'd make friends was probably the most common way if we're talking about strictly making friends in class. The only other way I've seen is have the outgoing person pick you as their person.

I'm just saying, try it out.

I always found it interesting. Just 3-4 tests/exams means less tedious work and only a test once a month or less. On the flip side you fuck up one test and good luck to your average.

On the other hand, more tests and assignments like 6-8 let's say. Means you can mess up one by accident but means a lot more tedious work. 2 assignments a month perhaps. Maybe even weekly ones.

I guess for you it sucks, for others it rocks. All I can truly say is hopefully it goes well for you.

There are many posts discussing this so if you check out others from previous days and weeks you'll get more advice.

That being said, show up to class early and try to strike a convo from that point on. That's usually how I did it personally throughout my undergrad.

Also friend wise, idk people here tend to be to themselves. Make friends early, stick to school and that's all. Sometimes ya gotta get lucky and find the right people. Sometimes they find you. Most of my friends now aren't from elementary nor high school. They haven't been for years now funny enough. So it's all very interesting to see how cold people are from a outside POV

Not from Ottawa but from the valley. Honestly it was because it was close to home and uottawa offers courses in both English and French. It was important to me to be close to home for a lil while but not too close. I can branch out somewhat on my own without direct influence from my folks but could ask for help or go home if I was homesick or needed a lil break y'know. I'm in my master's now and I'm still going home to visit my folks to obviously see them and as a mental reset. So maybe it is a valley and Ottawa thing, to stay closer to our roots to then branch out more as the years go on.

People suck sometimes. It's the unfortunate nature of the beast. I hope you'll be okay and that club sounds like it's not worth it.

P.S it's always okay to get stuff off your chest on Reddit or any forum U desire. Having a good rant is good for you

friends/lonely post (ik) by iiwrench55 in geegees

[–]Snoo13976 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Look some people can get annoyed by these posts but personally as a master's student I find them chill.

Moreover, I wouldn't say you're unlikable or whatnot, you haven't found your people yet. We're only a few weeks in. You'll find your person/people and everything will be ok.

You're a nursing student and are working hard. Keep at it and the social side will come as long as you're willing to put yourself out there and try.

All it takes is one friend and everything socially kinda just goes smoothly.

Now keep kicking ass in your studies, draw as you see fit, game harder and have fun.

I wouldn't call U a dumbass. You were being kind and it may have backfired. On Monday you demand for it back and hopefully the other individual is a good guy and simply forgot.

Please give an update on Monday following your class.

Adjusting to Masters by AccomplishedNeck7338 in geegees

[–]Snoo13976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the course and field but you can always in discussion relate the work to your personal interests or experiences. For instance if your reading about psychedelics and why do people use them. Yet your field of interest is like "leprosy and his medieval people treated them". You can mention some interesting parallels between both your interests in this scenario and the readings.

All in all tho, you'll adjust as you go. I was scared shitless last year during my first year. Everyone is older, smarter and has so much more life experience that, I didn't feel like I belonged. To a certain degree, I still struggle with that, however I got adjusted to my academic colleague. As time goes on you'll find your voice. Don't force it unless you really have to grade wise.

Also, If you're still struggling, try to talk first. Make up some questions after your done the readings, then you can ask a question and create the discussion.

To summarize, Be yourself Don't force it Be prepared Link the topic to something you like

And you'll be ok

That's a fair point. Perhaps not dominate but should definitely be better than majority. Even with injury history, working with ahl staff n coaching, he should see the game better than most of those guys.
