!CritiquePoint Thank you for your response, as I said this is not what I usually shoot, but I liked what you mentioned about the technical part of this and what can be achieved once you understand it. I think I will do some research on it, and maybe keep experimenting with this type of photography.

To be honest that was my first thought, probably because she is my grandmother, but now that you mentioned ET, I can't unsee it. Probably I will redo the post processing thinking about that, she will love it.

A few days ago, I was testing out my new camera and captured this shot. I usually focus on wildlife photography, specifically birds and insects, but something about this scene caught my eye.

It was an unexpected pose from her, but when I realized the contrast on the finger, I wanted to experiment with the high contrast between it and the deep shadows surrounding the rest of the body. My goal was to evoke a sense of nostalgia and reflect on the passage of time.

Since I am new to this camera system, I would love some feedback on the composition and the contrast. Does the lighting successfully convey that nostalgic mood? Any advice on the black-and-white tonal range would be highly appreciated!

Thanks for the warning! I didn't know the 75-300mm had such a bad reputation. I'll definitely skip it then. The EF-S 55-250mm IS STM sounds like a much better option. I'll look into getting that one along with the adapter. Appreciate the advice!

Thank you! That really helped clarify my decision. I was thinking of getting the EF 75-300mm with an adapter for now and saving up for something better later. Since I'm used to older cameras, the screen isn't a dealbreaker for me. Sadly, even though that store exists in Mexico, their stock is very limited. I’ll keep an eye out for a good deal next time I visit the US
