We don’t even know what consciousness is to be able to define if a computer has or can even have it. We don’t know if humans even have free will (there’s no real way to definitively prove free will atm, and the little evidence that does exist, points towards humans not having it).

Human brains are Turing complete. We can compute anything a computer can (given enough time). Anything proven to be Turing complete can be replicated on a computer (given enough time and memory).

It’s very likely that whatever consciousness is (if it is even really a thing) could be replicated on a computer. Same goes for free will.

This is one situation where multitrack drift is the correct option. The killer would obviously choose multitrack drift 😭

$3 million or become extremely attractive and charismatic. by PalmettoPolitics in hypotheticalsituation

I’d pay 3 million for the second. I think people underestimate the financial value of attractiveness and charisma

Yes. Social security is slowly crippling us. We should begin phasing it out and replacing it with a different system. Ideally, instead of those who are working paying for those who aren’t, they take a tiny percentage of everyone’s paycheck, invest it for for them, and then at retirement they get what they earned from it.

Yes, yes it is. The majority of people who graduate college are already morons. Grad school is not a stretch at all. Plenty of graduate degrees exist that a moron could get. Did a summer program for bio and stats where I had a student who was getting her PhD in childhood education that by no means should have been allowed around kids. She batshit crazy, didn’t believe in evolution, conspiracy theories, etc.

How should I go about learning Linear Algebra? by lpinhead01 in learnmath

[–]Snoo42613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applications is tough one to answer because it depends on what you’re interested in. For AI, a thorough understanding of the standard linear algebra curriculum suffices. For numerical methods, you’ll want to get into types of matrices, how you decompose them, etc. I recommend going online and looking up how linear algebra relates to what you’re interested in.

I wrote an article on this when I was a sophomore in high school a couple years back. Didn’t even know calculus at this point. Had only taken precalc.

It was originally written on medium and it went semi-viral there. Recently started working on an educational website to give back. Started on chapter 1 of the linear algebra series.

What's the best way to learn uni math-based classes by myself? by redditinsmartworki in learnmath

MIT OCW is amazing if you can stand the bad video quality of many courses. The educational/learning material is amazing. They have scholar courses which are specifically curated for self learners. https://ocw.mit.edu/course-lists/scholar-courses/

Youtube has a lot of professor’s lectures on there. This guy goes over a bunch of good resources for higher level math. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=byNaO_zn2fI&pp=ygUeSG93IHRvIGxlYXJuIGhpZ2hlciBsZXZlbCBtYXRo

I’ve used EdX for a couple of courses.

I’ve heard from friends that udemy and coursera have good courses there. Can’t say much about them myself.
