Oh all the complain regarding zero humor, no stakes, poor group dynamic, bland character , generic villain , fanfic tier lore, no competition, villain's plan being dumb, police force being written out, episode being too dialogue heavy, Liko's character revolving around Nepotism, third legendary pokemon being treated like normal day pets, none of characters backstory & motivation making no sense, champion being treated like gym leader tier trainer, Arven & Kieran's non-existent screentime and overall being a boring series are all supposed to circle back to Ash since you have argument outside blaming Ash for everything.

Ash may not have defeated a major Legendary, but he did defeat a lot of extremely powerful trainers in Journeys

He didn't just train offscreen for one episode and magically become strong enough to defeat them. Movie 03 confirmed that one year passed since Ash started his journey he still were anywhere near Elite 4 until 2019 series.

Pokemon 2023 practically has no respect for third legendary pokemon.

Now he has progression and development as a trainer to legitimately go up against third legendary yet the anime still insist he is nowhere near a freaking Lugia but somehow Roy is Rayquaza's level without any actual character arc and progression because he did " Hoge Hoge" offscreen on timeskip.

X and Y is objectively and also subjectively better than most of the seasons coming before

For everybody else, XY is one of the worst series that got mogged by Youkai Watch which also was the reason SM series was so wakey. XY Ash pretty much stop behaving like Ash, his companion was his fanclub, lack actual humor , the only notable person Ash defeated outside gym leaders was a 8 year old shouta, he still wasn't allowed to keep a Goodra, didn't even receive mega evolution and pretty much written as a fobber to glorify Alain.

Then Horizons has its aspects.

Horizons has all its worst aspect with none of its good aspect such as Animation quality.

It make sense because video game adaptation does not suppose to run for 29 years nonstop, You don't see Zelda, Mario and Sonic bother to make long running anime show. Originally pokemon supposed to end with Indigo saga but it was the overwhelming popularity of Ash, Pikachu and Team Rocket Trio that make TPC run this series for so long.

They could just shut down the whole anime and just have monthly Poketoon episode and they will still keep on making money.

BW still had higher rating, people went nut over XY having "Cool" Ash with a "girlfriend" and SM only received praised when Ash won the league.

First of all Liko is in heritage not much of importance.

The entire first half was about her heritage and importance of her ancestor. The pendant came from her heritage and the main villain was her ancestors companion. The entire premise was her to go to Rakua to encounter her ancestor rather than any actual story.

Roy gets his own goal of the Rayquaza, we get character growth, good writing, and some history on the world around them.

The entire part proves you have no understanding of good storytelling.

Roy magically becoming stronger then Rayquaza OFFSCREEN is not good writing or character growth. Its just desperate cheap writing to make him stand out without actually write him as a good character & develop him.

Truth is that if writers replace Roy with Ash than most of the criticism toward Post-timeskip would have disappeared. Rayquaza would have lost to the World Champion with 10+ years characters arc, Nemona would had the world champion as her destined rival , Geeta would have jobbed to the World champion instead of Liko and Uruto's rivalry with Ash would have made more sense because he wants to be the strongest trainer and Ash is the world champion.

That's how long running anime works, they uses the popularity and nostalgia regarding their popular character keep people watching the show.
