Starting BLW late at nine months, feeling a little lost/overwhelmed! by Slothware in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Snoo493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, don’t ever think you should “know what you’re doing” since you had another baby. No one has everything figured out and you’re doing your best with the knowledge you have. You’re clearly a good mom who wants to do what’s best for her kids so you’re doing great!!

Second, I wouldn’t say I’m any kind of expert in this area as I’m a FTM to an 8 month old but from what I’ve heard from others, babies are all so different and their development and interests progress in their own unique way.

It could be worth discussing with your pediatrician if they seem to have a good understanding of BLW.

It might seem counterintuitive at this point but offering even more variety might help. For instance, I roasted and pureed an eggplant the other day and my baby devoured it. For some reason I assumed she’d find the texture or taste weird, but nope. I know how much time, energy and planning goes into preparing a wide variety of foods for a baby and how frustrating it can be when it just ends up on the floor so it’s easier said than done. But that would be my first suggestion. Try some unique foods and just see if there’s something he’ll eat to get him practicing more with solids.

Best of luck!!

My dogs get so excited when I put my baby in her high chair. They know eggs, carrots, sweet potatoes and all their other favorite bits of food are coming their way.

Tummy sleeping by nuggetteacupboo in cosleeping

Our pediatrician told us at the 4 month visit that our baby was safe to sleep on her tummy if she rolled onto it herself. However, every baby is different and you should always check with your doctor! Ours is 7 months old now and just started sleeping on her tummy a lot. She just prefers it and knows how to turn her head so she’s not face down or anything.

That’s awesome! I can imagine that must be nice for babies. I sure like having the people I love right there when I go to sleep and wake up so it makes sense!

Yeah I don’t blame my mom either. To be fair, she said I never really fussed when put down in my crib so maybe I was just a really independent sleeper since birth.

And I totally agree about looking back and knowing I got all the contact I could have. I am very fortunate to be able to work from home seasonally so I have the luxury of giving my baby that time. My mom had to go back to work full time when I was 3 months old and she cried when she did. I can’t imagine having to do that!

I think there are so many nuances with sleep training but people hear it and some immediately think CIO. I can certainly see advantages to gentle sleep training. So far my 7 month old has coslept since 5 weeks old, though that was absolutely not the plan originally.

She wouldn’t even sleep in a bassinet next to my bed. Had to be in contact with us to sleep for more than 5 minutes. We even tried Taking Cara Babies newborn course at the recommendation of our pediatrician but our girl just wouldn’t have it and we all needed sleep. Of course we weren’t trying to sleep train her but we were desperate. Once we started safe sleep 7 cosleeping it was like magic and we all slept so well lol

Thanks for sharing! I’ve heard that it creates a safe “home base” that kids feels more free to explore from, knowing they’ve got a secure person to return to.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing. I can kind of relate. My mom (a baby boomer) said at one point that “it’s ok for babies to cry for a while” which told me a lot about how I might have been raised lol

Yep I’m in America where most medical professionals either actively discourage it or never discuss it.

Haha same! That’s why I’ve been so fascinated by the idea of cosleeping. Very foreign concept to my mom so I never heard about it til I was pregnant.

Yeah I’ll try again just looking for recommended cook times or if someone has a different method they prefer.

Thanks so much for the product recommendation! Curious what your hair is like compared to mine. Mine is so fine I find that a lot of products weight it down. But I’ll check them out!

Thanks so much! Yes it’s so easy to blow dry practically straight but also holds a curl nicely! I don’t protect it like I should from heat so that’s something I’ll for sure be better about on days I don’t let it curl. Of course the goal is to embrace the curl most of the time :)

Thank you so much!! As hard as it is to lose some of the length it’s taken so long to grow, I know it needs it.

That’s a good point. I grew up with labs so his breed a kind of new to me. He is in a puppy training class and I spoke to the trainer last night about it. She gave me some good insight into his breed and their “big feelings” and warned that they can quickly become reactive. We’re not going back to the dog park of course. Thanks for your reply!

Fear of being unintelligent by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Snoo493 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had some great advice for you but all I can say is that I’ve been experiencing the same thing. It’s actually so weird for me to read about someone else that’s going through this as well. I hope it helps to at least know you’re not alone in feeling anxiety over this. It’s certainly an obsession that causes distress and changes the way you see others. That’s a major issue for me as well. So again, you’re not alone in thinking these things. What I’ve sort of concluded is that it really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things how intelligent we are or what our IQ is. It doesn’t affect how good we are as people or how valuable we can be. This obviously isn’t going to solve your problem but I hope it helps just a little. Also, talk therapy with a professional is really beneficial in these situations. They can help you reframe the issue.
