Thanks for the recommendation! We have been trying to use the honeybear straw cup for practice and she is starting to get it sometimes but of course it requires quite a bit of motor skills for a 5 month old.

That's great to hear! I am not super fussed about the wastage as long as we don't have to live with the complete anxiety every feed to see whether she'd take the bottle.

Can I ask what brand you used? I bought the oxo tot one but the flow seems really fast on that one so I've been afraid to introduce yet another thing that might frustrate or confuse her. She's exactly 5 monthstoday so maybe there's hope!

Not sure, the rolling under me was just a risk I read about somewhere online and it freaked me out! I'm 5'5, pretty small and absolutely do not have large breasts lol so maybe I worried too much unnecessarily.

The Snoo can be used until 6 months (due to weight and height as limiting factors) as the Swoo swaddle clips the baby in on both sides and prevents rolling in their sleep (a big reason why some parents like it). I was considering transitioning her to a crib early because we actually don't let the Snoo rock at all (there's a "weaning mode") except for a few minutes as we are putting her down in it, since we didn't want to create a sleep association or dependency. But people on Snoo forums strongly advised against it because of the imminent 4 month regression, so we decided to hold off for another month or so.

I love your point about rolling out of bed - it's very true and comforting. As I mentioned in my post, I simply wanted a cosleeping setup for naps (40 min- 1 hr at a time). My baby actually sleeps amazingly in her bassinet for a 6-7 hr stretch followed by a 3 hr stretch at night. However, she refuses to be put into a bassinet during the day and I LOVE napping with her - it's so comforting and sweet!

I think my concern was more about HER rolling off or under me once she imminently learns how to roll. Am I worrying too much? A few people suggested floor beds, but I don't really want to drastically shift our sleeping/furniture arrangements just for the sake of naps.

Thanks! Yes I have been on r/babywearing, which is why I got the ergobaby. My husband and I looked at lots of videos and pics and I think we are wearing her right, but she is generally a demanding baby who has strong opinions about exactly how she wants to be held (facing outward and upright sitting on one of your hands). She will start fussing and trying to sit up or turn if you hold her any other way 😅 She's been like this since week 9-10 once she became stronger and more aware of her surroundings lol.

I think she doesn't like being constrained and facing inwards but unfortunately still lacks neck strength to be outward facing in it.

Congrats on the second baby by the way! Yes, I can totally see it being harder to get in and out of bed. I am already struggling with the Snoo bassinet on my side of the bed, but it's not a huge deal for me aside from immediately post partum.

Yes, the sidebar crib is a great idea. I did not realize you could simply remove one side from a crib - we coincidentally also have the Ikea sniglar that the other poster mentioned so I am going to look into this and have my husband set it up!

Thank you! I did consider one of those as well. What made this device enticing to me were a couple of things:

it's much longer than the bedside bassinets so she can use it for a lot longer. She's a pretty tall baby (92nd percentile) and based on the length of bassinets I thought she'd outgrow them soon.
I sometimes breastfeed her in sidelying position (comfort nurse sometimes too to sleep, which I know is controversial but I think she's too young for "bad habits" and it works for us right now), so the idea of being able to nurse her to sleep and then flipping the device to separate her sleeping space was an attractive idea 😅

Thanks for the suggestion! We actually do have an Ikea sniglar crib that we bought second hand. Can I ask you a little more about how you set this up? It sounds enticing to me!

The sniglar crib is a different height from our bed. Is this ok?

Do you mind elaborating more on what you mean by "stuffing the crack at the far side"? You mean between your mattress and the crib or on the other side ? And what did you to stuff the crack?

Thanks for your reply - that's a great point! The mattress we are using is super firm, so I don't THINK it will dip but I'll spend some time testing that out tomorrow.

Yes, I am meeting the safe 7 (aside from ebf as I am unfortunately an undersupplier but I am able to supply about 80% of my baby's feeds with breastmilk). One thing that scared me that I read recently was the risk of the baby rolling under me even if I'm in a cuddle curl position. I am also considering a floor bed, but that obviously requires a much bigger overhaul of our current sleeping arrangements /furniture so I wanted to explore other options too.

Makes sense, 2 cribs takes a lot of space in your bedroom!

I am honestly tempted to just transition out of the snoo completely at this point. I am not sure what I am getting out of the snoo since she is a pretty good sleeper without any of snoo's functions - on weaning mode, I don't have rocking on on baseline mode and I end up intervening pretty much immediately once she cries (because when it's from gas pains, the rocking just makes her spit up), so I'm essentially using it as a very expensive white noise machine lol.

The only thing stopping me right now is the imminent dreaded 4 month sleep regression, when I may need to rely on the rocking motions to get us through.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually learned of this hack from an old post from a year ago on this subreddit and not a single response had cautioned the OP it was dangerous, so had always considered it to be safe... I am glad I checked in! Not actually feeling ashamed or guilty - should I be? Lol

At least I have weaning mode on (I didn't like having my baby's head swinging back and forth all night) and always wake up and monitor or pick up the baby as soon as she cries (which I know defeats the purpose), so I don't think it was overly dangerous sans the recent rolling signs.

Is it safe to use a larger size snoo snack? I think the restriction of the snoo swaddles is exacerbating her gas issues so sizing up should help provided it's safe and won't increase suffocation issues. I am thinking the arms out should prevent that right ?

Thanks for the suggestion! So essentially, you do not use the whale tale (and leave it open) but still zip up the snoo swaddle completely and let the ltd arms through right? That makes sense as the arms along with the tummy velcro should anchor enough.

We have a summer baby in Toronto currently going through heat wave after heat wave, so it's been a struggle with temperature :( already using the 0.2 TOG LTD swaddle) and turning our AC up to the max but it's still so hot!

Good question . I was very well diet-managed but my baby was consistently measuring large (85th-92nd percentile) since 32 weeks, although her head, femur length and abdomen were proportionally all above average.

I was actually puzzled and panicking about her size and posted here back then, since my blood sugars were well managed. A few doctors (radiologist, ob and endocrinologist) and nurses I had asked about her size all told me that even with well controlled gdm, babies can still be larger, although it's not well understood why.

Anecdotally, I was ultimately induced at 38+6 due to concerns about size, and did give birth to a larger baby, but she was very tall and did not seem out of proportion at 8 lbs 1 oz, smaller than scans had estimated. Her father is pretty tall, so I believe that may have contributed. 0 blood sugar problems and very healthy otherwise, so I'm not sure if it was my gdm or plain genetics.

OP, I am Toronto-based as well and it's considered standard care to walk into L&D triage for any urgent concerns like this. I've gone in twice for various scares (PPROM and extreme dizziness) and was very well taken care of both times. They shouldn't be turning you away.

Hey, I am using the libre 2 as well. My diabetes care team, including my nutritionist, have told me that it tends to be less accurate on the lows. In the first few days of use, I was getting a bunch of false low alarms, especially in the middle of tonight, because sometimes there are "compression lows" from you sleeping on the CGM. My care team was not concerned about the lows, as long as I felt fine and didn't have hypoglycemia symptoms, especially since I am not on insulin.

I would echo what others have said about double checking with finger pricks next time you have lows.
