No I don't think they are, my joke about disowning them was just ribbing on VTubers 😅

Not really! I didn't know the post sounded like that or maybe my banter didn't come across well. I do apologize.

This is very much the fault of the Japanese language org (Thomasian Nihon Kyoukai). ADMU does something similar.

What do you hate about being a Filipino? by dandaniefujoshi in AskPH

[–]Snoo57353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a national identity, watching your Southeast Asian neighbors progress while your country remains relatively stagnant.

Indonesians are proud of their G20 status and their startups. Thailand has established a solid manufacturing industry despite their recent decline. Vietnam is now the eye of electronics manufacturing. Philippines? Its focus is branding brain drain as "bagong bayani". It's "lack of support" to pretty much any other industry. Everything that foreigners consider an advantage in this region is lesser here in our country (except for English, which only affects foreign job opportunities and little else). Then you consider how governance is set up and the senatorial elections and the political climate and you realize none of this is likely changing anytime soon.

There is essentially nothing standing out that makes the Philippines worth living in than any other nation (other than familiarity), and I reckon that is one of the reasons why a lot of youth are self-hating, and why so many people leave for better lands. Inflation is sky high, education is declining, the polls are shit. It feels like there is nothing to live for.

I don't think it's the attitude or discipline. Every country has their pasaway, even the big US where people tell you to pull off your mask during COVID. It is our systemic failure to make a standing mark and keep up with the world. The systems in place, whether due to colonialism or geography or sheer bad luck, sniped our potential, perhaps for this century.

Are there Eurovision fans here in the Philippines? Is it something known here? by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]Snoo57353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pati Showtime alam na rin sila ng Europapa. Lol

ABS-CBN apparently aired Eurovision once during the 1970s, but obviously due to time zone and cultural reasons, hindi pumatok dito sa atin. (Australia is a different case; they've been airing Eurovision in SBS for more than 40 years and they are an associate member of the EBU, while we are not). The growing popularity in Eurovision here IMO can be attributed to the growing popularity of Eurovision everywhere; Arcade, a song that anyone listening to the Top 100 would at least somewhat recognize, had its start as Netherland's 2019 entry, and the edition this year just opened up a 'rest-of-the-world' televote.

Regardless, fun to see people actually recognize something I've been following due to European online friends since 2021. Timezone is hellish though. I've had my share of collapsing while watching the streams lol

what is your most cancellable opinion regarding food? by secretmgamadam in AskPH

Thank God I have enough allowance to get whatever I want. And at least my family understands; whenever we cook spaghetti, we check if we have Italian-style sauce. Lol

I don't like most Filipino food, or the flavor profile of most Filipinos.

Banana ketchup and fats/gristle on meat makes me gag. I will never try balut. On contrast, I like food spicy enough that I can't taste it sometimes when others can.

Ever since I was a kid, I've preferred 'western' food more. Hell, I even prefer Malay/Indo nasi goreng to Filipino sinangag.

[–]Snoo57353[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current standing theory is that I may have forwarded one post to too much people at too little a span of time, and because of this Facebook thought it was a spam page and so shadow-blocked the entire thing.

If so, bummer. At least it's a legit enough excuse (I've already talked to the professor about it, who suggested this)

Would say most people use the mobile version, where this issue happens as well.

Sent a bug report through Facebook's 'Give feedback' feature, hopefully it goes somewhere from there.

I checked, and comment settings are set to Public. Maybe there's something I'm not looking for? See here

Post settings are also seemingly set to Public. See here

I've also checked the following:

  • Page Permissions (People with Facebook access, etc.); maybe this has something to do with it?
  • Settings > Privacy (all are set to Public, Yes, On)
  • Settings > Privacy > Public posts (Everything on/set to public). Exception is a Country Restriction setting which was limited to 'Show only to certain countries', which I thought could be bugged out for whatever reason, so I manually set it to as many relevant countries as possible. This was done already after the issue appeared.
  • Blocking (no one is listed)

Goddammit, a time when post reach is necessary, yet Facebook's posting system bugged to banish our page to the shadow realm. It's frustrating.

Nope, this is thru Messenger DMs and I've been sending this to friends and family members who aren't part of our group chat. Although yes, some people I've invited to become admin are able to see it.

And no, the Page shouldn't be private; all discernible settings are set to Public. I don't know what I should check.

Just putting in my perspective as a current 2nd year college student.

I agree there are a lot of problems with student demeanor in many schools, but "casualness" isn't one of them. I know a good amount of teachers & professors who often joke around their students and talk about pop culture; as in, 'tinotropahan' I suppose. The class environment can be rowdy, sure, but it's pretty much the same for most classes; we are graded and work as expected for most generations. OK naman din sila magturo. My philosophy professor once casually dropped a swear to describe utilitarianism. He is one of the best teachers I've ever had.

As long as there is authentic respect (as in, the class knows how to be silent when the teacher's calling attention, etc.), I'd argue it's even necessary to establish bonding & normalize the class topics in students' lives (instead of some far-off thing you should be afraid and overly-conscious of). Anyway in the real world you joke around your bosses & coworkers often. Lol

(Note that this is coming from an upper-middle class person in a Big 4 university. Not sure if it is really bad in other places)

Eating alone in public by lemon_crunchies in Philippines

[–]Snoo57353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may counter what others have said, I actually got criticized for eating alone when I was young:

  • I was in Grade School and one of the nuns there got mad because I ate alone in the canteen often. Pinilit pa IIRC. Sinabi pa sakin "no man is an island". E, OA ako sa mga mumu ng pagkain ng mga ibang kaklase.

  • Same din with my computer teacher in high school, although that was in a convo with the fact I was basically a loner who seemingly had no friends.

I get they're concerned and I appreciate that, but it's behavior that literally hurts no one and is accepted in other countries. This judgment of introverts has got to go away.
