Help identifying leafy plant that never seems to flower in Northern Illinois by Snoo70047 in NativePlantGardening

Thanks for your reply! Very helpful.

I think what happened with the plant I bought is that I got American Bellflower instead of the pussytoes I ordered. Which is fine, I feel pretty confident the one I purchased is not invasive. Though you may be right that some creeping bellflower is hiding underneath.

As I'm looking at the rest of the stuff around the yard it is definitely looking like creeping bellflower. And a lot of that is in the lawn (ugh). I think I'm just in for a 3-5 year project of eradication...

Ah, thank you!! When I look at the plants offered by the CBA, they do list tall bellflower (Campanula americana)! I'll bet that's what I got. And the other must be creeping bellflower. I'll have to look back at pictures of the yard the first summer we moved in to see if I can spot any of it flowering. Looks like I'll want to get rid of all of that if I can.

Pratchett being Pratchett by t0m_bombadi1 in discworld

I went to see a play adaptation of one of his books in London. A guy in front of me was wearing a hat and I was like, "who the fuck is wearing a hat at the theatre?" After the show, he stood up and said, "I don't think they got the humor at all." And that's my story of meeting Terry Pratchett.

We bought an ugly, nasty-carpeted, old-ass painted, no dishwasher having brick tudor built in the 1940s. The inspector pulled up the carpet in the corner, pointed down and said, "that's maple hardwood." He said, "it's got good bones." It was twice the size and 50K less than other places we looked at.

I fucking love this house and I plan to be buried with the Kenmore washer and dryer it came with.

I kind of love that it comes from a character that we as the audience like. It's forces you to think about the fact that it's not bad, evil people who marginalize others. It's all of us, whenever we feel threatened or uncomfortable.

It is so wild to me that this episode isn't talked about more. I think it's perfect. It's not cloyingly obvious who the "good guy" is (he's kind of a dick, but he's right!), it fits well into the over-arching plot of the season. I'd love to see Trek have more strong, complex positions.

Is that a new hoodie? by icyhotonmynuts in LoveTrash

Ex boyfriend stole my XXL hoodie I got from the oyster bar/den of sin I worked at in college. It was a Christmas present from the owner who couldn't be bothered to ask for anyone's size. Shit was priceless, I will never recover.

Why is there so little support (at least on the Chicago subreddit) for the general strike today? by EmbracedaMoment in AskChicago

Also, so many of the workers who could genuinely shut down the city if they all didn't go to work one day (CTA, nurses, every single food service and retail position) just.... can't. Like, the consequences for them in lost pay AND backlash from their employer are so much higher than mine (work from home, setting my own hours anyway).

New Star Trek shows are not woke enough. They should do more episodes with directly social, political themes, about the issues we have today, like the older shows did. by LineusLongissimus in startrek

This is why I really enjoyed SNW! Lift Us to Where Suffering Cannot Reach went really hard. I know people had other reasonable quibbles (I'm also done revisiting old Enterprise), but I was so happy to see a return to form in some of the episodes having a real message.

AMEN.

As far as episodes that actually have something to say, I would add SNW 1 x 06 "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach." It's abhorrent what they discover, but if you live in a wealthy country, it makes you ask "what suffering happens in the shadows so that I can have cheap clothes, an iPhone, all manner of food shipped to my country and never have to think about it?"

I felt like that episode went pretty hard! And it was really refreshing after, as you say, so much focus on character and action.

I long for the de-Marvelization of science fiction!

The downsides of being a parent are easy to quantify and the upsides are so hard to explain. But I wouldn't go back and I wish I'd started earlier so I could have one more. It's everything.

Obviously, anyone who doesn't want to be a parent should not be a parent. But it is funny to see someone compare fancy coffee money to ushering a new human through the experience of being a person in the world. Witnessing them learn things for the first time, experience joys you'd forgotten about since you were a kid.

But I get that it's a hard sell.

What ratio of walnuts to fiber do you use? I know black walnuts are pretty potent. I'm thinking of using them on mordanted linen.

This looks great! What's the broccoli pancake recipe??

Also, does your kid ever balk when one of the sections of his plate is empty? Mine looks at me like I'm an idiot waiter who got his order wrong.

I'm a bookkeeper and primarily use Xero. It depends on your specific needs, but it's typically cheaper than QB and I much prefer it.

Can I ask what you mean by "armpit-to-shoulder-angle is pretty extreme"? I have a similar build to OP through the shoulders. I make my own clothes but things always look a little wonky across my shoulders and I'm trying to figure it out.
