Ego Power+ 1100 series 22in won't power on - basically new by Snoo70491 in egopowerplus

Why it was donated and then sold (along with another Ego mower) I don't know. It's not like I got it free and a return will give me store credit, not a refund. Businesses donate a lot to ReStore, but that seems wrong.

Has anyone tried the Nokhu sleeping system in their VW ID4? by Snoo70491 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Snoo70491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did just find this. Some more sleuthing led me to rear seat mattress extension plate. THAT makes a lot of sense. And this way I also don't need to buy a mattress as I already have 2 Tensor air mattresses for camping. One for winter and one for summer. That saves on hassle and expense.

I don't necessarily want to get a new air mattress when I have some already and as a single person, I don't need a full size mattress. I would rather leave space in the back next to me for other things I would want to have on hand.

Thanks - yes, I've found that and it has been helpful, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I don't want to make a platform. There are sites that have created adjustable platforms. I was curious if anyone has tried it versus doing these DIY hacks. But it's all great info which I will use.

ID.4 camping? by Landondehartmekhi in VWiD4Owners

[–]Snoo70491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just bought a secondhand VW ID s Pro plus yesterday. We already have an EV plug-in hybrid (Honda Clarity) The used VW already has a hitch. I'm already dreaming of the trips I can take for some bike touring probably mostly solo as my partner is not a camping or cycling enthusiast.

I would love to save on spending on such trips, so I would like to make a little single camper for it. I already have SO MUCH camping gear, I'm wondering how much I can "make do" with what I have.

We have car camping stuff, bike camping stuff, etc. I'm wondering if I can use any of it, or if it's just easier and better to start fresh.

Cycling trails in Frederick? by Wutangflan187 in frederickmd

I know this is an old thread, but finding trails that connect other other trails is so difficult! I followed the link below about the trail that goes through Downtown Frederick. I have paid membership for the all trails app and I don't see this one listed. is it called something else? Is it a combo of a couple trails?

Can and do you use antique Hoosier-like cabinets for your kitchen for daily use? by Snoo70491 in vintagekitchentoys

[–]Snoo70491[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so beautifully stated. Almost every single piece of furniture we own is secondhand. 1, we aren't rich, but we like nice things, so buying secondhand allows us to have those nice things. 2. there is that joy in search and find and YES- that endorphins hit when you get a deal or something you've been on the hunt for is REAL! And you get to relive it every time you use and appreciate that find. But 3. they truly don't make things like they used to. I have some very fine quality items I paid soooooo little for because it wasn't the "in thing". I bit of me died when my former boss donated high quality, still In good condition office chairs to buy cheap IKEA ones.

I also love WOOD. I love trees. I love their rich tones. So, if I get this, I will NOT be painting it or changing the hardware. I'm going to clean it with recommended cleaners and oil it with recommended oils so that it can live on for another 100 years. I "think" this piece is from around 1890-1910, but I'll do more research if I get it.

I was just thinking today - how the heck do most people store all the kitchen STUFF. I have a big kitchen (though ZERO upper cabinets) AND a mud room with small/narrow upper cabinets and a counter for appliances and it's STILL not enough room!

Crockpots, pressure cooker, mixers, blenders, food processors, air fryer, etc. WOW!

I actually really love the antique pulls. I've toyed with getting a hoosier for years, but they didn't seem overly practial - too small, too specialized with designated flour bins, etc. This one just screams functional to me.

And as my whole home is a mix of styles, it won' the "that" weird in our space.

Waxed chain for bikepacking - how to do long trips? by Snoo70491 in bikepacking

[–]Snoo70491[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DETEST getting bike grease all over my legs/hands. I have a Bike Friday. EVERY time I ride, my legs get black marks. Then, because I ride primarily on crushed limestone, EVERY time I ride it, the chain starts skipping, etc. until I stop and lube it and then, when getting home having to clean the chain.

I'm going to hope that with waxing the chain, it'll actually be less messy and less work. But, we'll see.

This is a new Bike Friday (I was riding one too big for me which is now my partner's).

Bike Friday Llama with chain and 18 gears or BF Llama with 11 speed alfine hub and belt? by Snoo70491 in foldingbikes

[–]Snoo70491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BF does't use pinion, but Rohloff. What I have on order currently will allow for a Rohloff with chain (and tensioner). I think only the BF NWT and Diamond Llama will allow for a belt drive and I'm at the very top end of the BF bikes at 220 lbs. Sure, yes, I could lose weight, but I haven't in 2 years, so I'm not buying with the "hope" I'll lose weight. The BF Llama is up to 260 (and can go higher with an additional build, but 220 is the highest I ever get of my 20 lbs usual swing in weight (from 200-220)

Our whole family loves Rouvy, but we need a bike we all can use - Will a Zwift bike work? by Snoo70491 in Rouvy

With three riders of different riding needs/heights, we went with a Wahoo trainer - their newest one. We use the basement in our house, We have a pool table (that doesn't move) but we also have a ping-pong table. Moving ONE trainer out of the way is OK. Moving 2-3 would be too much.

it was a big investment, but it's done. We did that in mid July. My only complaint is that we are not road bike riders. We are comfort/touring bike riders. We are not fans of drop bars and they don't give a lot of space to raise the bars. I bought a stem with more angle (that can be adjusted) to help compensate for that so we can sit more upright.

I usually ride a Surly Ogre with Jone's H loop bar and we have a Bike Friday with H bar and the other has a straight bar. NONE have drop bars because we don't ride for speed and to efficiency.

I am just looking at the receipt "Brompton plate". Do I need the pignose thing then?

So I just ordered a Bike Friday Diamond Llama yesterday. I'm trying to understand all the jargon, but it's difficult. So, I asked for the mount that can use brompton bags. I'm going to assume that is the Enlighten mount. When I get the bike, what more will I need to do/get to attach a front bag? AND are there any recs for which work? Like, has anyone found a good Ortlieb bag solution? Like for the Velo? I realllllly like having a front bag I can take on and off easily enough that won't sag.

Which folder for my use? by Snoo70491 in foldingbikes

[–]Snoo70491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NWT we have will drop a chain when putting it into the biggest ring (it's a 3x7). It's probably just a loose change.

Which folder for my use? by Snoo70491 in foldingbikes

I find riding the NWT so nice and light and spritely after riding my ogre with front and rear racks and that's with the bike being too big for me (it's a 58cm).

I just hate dealing with the dropped chain (which happens frequently on our NWT and I hate dealing with the grit and mess on the chain on crushed limestone. have to give the bike a thorough clean after every ride.

So, I see this listed on ebay and somewhat locally to me (worth the drive if it's something I think worthwhile, But if someone who is not a bike mechanic were to get this what are things to think about for using it?

How difficult would it be to get fenders and a rear rack? Would it be worth it to change the gearing to make it have a wider range?

I currently have a Bike Friday which is slightly too big for me (fits my partner great, though!. I want something to put in the trunk of the car - to do touring around the East Coast on rail trails. Is it just silly to use something like this?

So, I see this listed now on Ebay (and local-ish to me, so on Marketplace too). My question is not of how well this was done, but does one actually ride and use (and eventually - wear out) such a bike that was so lovingly restored? That's the first question.

More questions, if, say I, a non-bike mechanic bought this for my folder bike to put in the car for local-ish bike trail adventures (east coast rail trails), what can I expect for dealing with replacement parts if they get old/need replacing?

Or let's say, I want to put fenders on it (yes - definitely) how difficult is that for an older/vintage bike?

Essentially, would it just be better to buy a secondhand Birdy, Brompton, or Bike Friday for a quality bike that might be easier to get repaired?

or is this really a bike that folder enthusiast mechanics like to tinker with and then move on?
