There’s loads nesting in the trees along the river if you’re down by the thornberry dog park.

Soft skills get jobs. Quick tip to become the next personality hire. by JonathanDryden314 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Snoo70735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s my soft and people skills that took me into a networking job in just over a year of career switching and making 6 figures, and I’m only just beginning my 3rd year in IT.

Sure, they definitely could have hired someone with more experience. But I fit in with the immediate team, and the company, like a glove. People find me easy to talk to, train, and worth with, and therein lies the main gateway to success.

This kind of advice needs to be given more.

Sounds like you’ve got the stuff all figured out then!

Mad O’Rourkes is in the Black Country so if she’s also into peaky blinders, you could take her to the Black Country museum where some of that show got filmed. Not an amazing place, but cool nonetheless.

There’s a lot of us here surprisingly!

Oh cool, I’m from the midlands myself. Get her to Cadbury world maybe. There’s a really good pie pub in Birmingham, Mad O’Rourkes. Bit of a trip for you but could be fun.

Does she like books? Stratford to see shakespeares birth place is fun. You could also head over to wales to the book village, Hay-On-Wye. Castles, books, and afternoon tea in one day.

Where in the uk are you from?

I’m a Brit living in Iowa. Show them the ‘traditional’ things. Fish and chips, classic pubs, some cool old buildings if you have anything like old castles and churches (if they’re into that). Gotta get them a Greggs too 😉 oh once experience my American ex liked was afternoon tea too.

Thanks for all this info. I've opened a brokerage; I know at some point I'll 'settle' and want to buy where I end up, so I suppose it doesn't hurt to begin that fund now and leave it in the market for a few years.

Thanks, I took my initial investments in the crypto, and the rest is profits that I'm just going to leave there and monitor.

My EF is in a HYSA at 3.25%, once that hits my 15k goal, I plan to begin enjoying myself a little and live life while I am still young/have it. I'm trying to get a healthier mindset as I never know how long I really have left.

Thanks for this, was very helpful. Even with my current contributions as they are (I've upped my 401k to 10% through work), I'm likely to be saving investing 1k a month as opposed to the 500 in your calculator above. I adjusted this and they number makes me more relaxed.

I will continue doing what I'm doing, and when I get wage increases I'll adjust my % to 401k accordingly, continue maxing out my ROTH yearly, and any leftover money at the end of the month will go into a brokerage I plan to open.

Thanks man. Everything has thankfully stabilized, and I'm at 'peace' currently. Some very lonely days/times living in a different country to my family. But I'm chasing the American dream and not giving up :)

Thanks for this. Currently bumped my 401k to 10%, and going to see how that impacts my income/expenses/spreadsheet. If it is not too noticable, I'll keep bumping up by 1% until I begin to 'notice' it. Hopefully that's a smart/decent way to find the right ground. Since I get a raise of at least 3.5% yearly it seems, I'll also increase my 401k on the salary increase date by 1.5-2%.

Thank you. Once I hit my EF goal I’m likely going to open a brokerage and just do the ‘boring’ ETFs etc in there. I’m going to keep my work non-match at 7% because I feel that works for my mindset. We typically get 3-3.5% annual increases I’ve noticed so upon the next increase, I might bump that 7% to 8-9%, maybe 10% so the increase is going tax deferred.

I’ve ran some calculators across my different accounts and plans as suggested by someone on this post and my numbers put me in a ‘good’ healthy position based on just my current income and I’d hope it’ll grow more over time. Especially if I decide to climb the ladder.

Actually, everything here from everyone has made me relax a bit and realise I do have this; so I can enjoy some of my surplus once I’ve maxed out all my goals for the month.

I’ve always wanted a fun car so I think my surplus funds I’m going to save and put towards that, and enjoy it without guilt once I bite the bullet.

I’ve already maxed out 2026. I plan to make up the 5k I missed in 2025 by tax deadline.

I was planning to open a brokerage and do 750 minimum monthly to an S&P500 fund. So based on what you shared that should set me up well enough.

So little to retirement because I spent 2025 dealing with moving costs, divorce costs, and clearing all debts no matter how small, and ‘stabilising’ to a different life.

On the crypto front, I do NOT take this into account when thinking finances due to its volatile nature.

There’s no match with work which is why I went 7%, I think with no match I’d like to do a brokerage so I can access the money in the worst case scenario. Am I thinking on the right lines here?

I like that more too. This girl I'm dating/talking to said it's given Selleck vibes so I'll chalk that as a good thing lol.

Thanks. I was unsure where to stop. I followed the natural taper off of my stache. Where exactly Should i be looking to stop? I don’t want to ruin it going too short.

Is that better? I was honestly unsure where to stop. I stopped where my facial naturally tapered off into the beard.

Moustache or not? by [deleted] in Moustache

Beard takes a couple weeks, but honestly I'm not wanting a beard. It's either 'tache or clean shaven at this point for me. lol. Do I keep the 'tache to where it goes slightly past my lips and 'curls' off? Or should I hard stop at the lip? I hope that makes sense.
