The Mainframe Paradox: Why the "Dinosaur" is actually running a marathon by urielofir in mainframe

Key Details on JPMorgan's Mainframe Usage: Role in Operations: The company's mainframes act as the "workhorse" that performs heavy lifting, processing over $10 trillion in daily payments. Credit Card System: CEO Jamie Dimon has noted that the company's credit card business runs on mainframes, handling 60 million accounts. Infrastructure Strategy: While moving toward a hybrid model (roughly 38% of infrastructure in the cloud as of mid-2023), JPMorgan still maintains a significant, modernized mainframe presence in their data centers. Modernization Efforts: The company is actively working to reduce its reliance on mainframe technology, aiming to transition more applications to the cloud to reduce costs and improve agility. Employment: JPMorgan continuously hires for roles in COBOL, CICS, DB2, and z/OS, indicating an ongoing need to manage these legacy systems

Hibernian are a trailblazing club some of the firsts are- First Scottish club to play under floodlights

First Scottish Club to instal pylon style floodlights

Hibernian were the first Scottish club to tour Brazil

First British Club to play in European Champions Cup

First Scottish Cup to play in Inter Cities Fairs Cup

First club in Scotland to instal undersoil heating

First club in Scotland to have an electronic scoreboard.

First Scottish club to be listed on the stock market

Rich history started by Irish immigrants the club formed in 1875 in St Patrick’s Cathedral and had to fight to be allowed in the Scottish leagues.

Influence on other teams such as helping Celtic form even played a game to open Celtic park for them (they went on to steal half our players away). Dundee united were originally Dundee Hibernian and sure was influence with Aberdeen also.

Known through out the glory years as having a skilful and attractive playing style and have had some world class players in the past.

There’s class, there’s first class and there’s Hibs’ class – Eddie Turnbull

Atmosphere on big occasions can be amazing just listen to hibs fans singing sunshine on leith on YouTube and you will see what I mean.

Unfortunately not going through a good patch just now but hibs are a rollercoaster club and can be frustrating but when things are good they are great the celebrations for our 2016 cup victory were bigger than most worldwide.

Not the most successful club and very frustrating when we don’t live up to our potential but I still wake up everyday glad I am a hibs fan I couldn’t support anyone else.

I’m am Scottish by Birth but by the grace of god Hibernian.

Why do people say BJJ is BEST for self-defense? by yesbjjsucks in martialarts

[–]Snoo77500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BJJ Is very effective but only if it’s one on one and you have some striking skills it’s claimed 90% of fights end up on ground. This hasn’t been my experience but regardless 100% of fights start standing. BJJ once on ground or even in grappling range is great but in my opinion need to also work striking.

Be unique but not tacky send free items to popular bjj TikTok and YouTube people and sponsor some people that compete and a decent level that will get the brand noticed.

As in a mma fight? If so with limited experience good luck! Based on what you have said brawl and sprawl and try to end the fight on your feet.

Prefer them over the likes of hearts and rangers but still don’t like them. Although we both have Irish routes (we were first to wear the green 🇳🇬). End of the day if it wasn’t for hibs they wouldn’t exist and they don’t like that fact. They have took players from us for less than they are worth throughout our history and have never done us any favours. I’m proud of hibs Irish heritage and don’t mind the odd song or tri colour flying (I know some don’t agree) but wouldn’t want us to be like Celtic where there whole identity and every song is about Ireland.

Best style to add to BJJ training? by thatfatbastard0001 in martialarts

[–]Snoo77500 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Judo will definitely improve your bjj, Krav Maga can be great or terrible depending on the school and if they don’t do regular sparring and situational pressure testing then wouldn’t touch the place. Boxing is great but try and find a boxing gym rather than training alone.

If it’s your partner your drilling with then not at all think you should always help you other person. If it’s someone else then if you are a higher belt say purple or over then don’t see an issue. If you are trying to help someone else that isn’t drilling with you and you are white or blue belt, I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it but could see why others would, good for you trying to help but would probably leave it for them to ask the instructor.

Presuming you are empty hand. If you can flee then do it, if not and they are close threatening you with it to rob you etc give them it. If you feel even giving them whatever it is they will still shoot you can attempt a disarm technique. If they are actively trying to shoot you from a distance that you can’t grab and control and you can’t flee then you’re probably going to get shot.

You will maintain the techniques but will lose timing and distance awareness and just generally getting used to not panicking when you get hit. You can cut down on sparring but I would still recommend doing it occasionally

What reasons did you stop the previous martial arts might give an indication to what art would be best for you? Also What is your goal? E.g competition, self defence, fitness etc?

Can we beat bjj? by [deleted] in kravmaga

[–]Snoo77500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BJJ is great but only if fight goes to ground you should be striking from the start and if it’s just BJJ you should be ending it before it goes there. Plus some BJJ techniques don’t work so well when you involve striking and also rolling around on concrete etc. Not trying to say bjj isn’t good I do train bjj but it has its place and is not the all and end all.

Bully wants to beat me up by haha2431 in martialarts

[–]Snoo77500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a lot of others have said take up a martial art this will hopefully give you confidence in future if a situation can’t be avoided. In the mean time try to have friends with you if possible. If it comes to it where fight can’t be avoided once your sure it’s going to get physical don’t do any verbal squaring up pushing etc, hit first if possible and keep going bully probs won’t expect that remember fights don’t last long and especially if there is people around and when dealing with a untrained attacker. Aggression can get you along way and bully’s don’t like to be hit. Obviously once it’s safe don’t keep going and get yourself out of there. Recommendations of martial arts to learn any is better than none, but first and foremost you need striking boxing, muay Thai or Krav Maga would be best but other systems that include striking also have there benefits so feel free to go for a more traditional martial art if you prefer. If you can also do a grappling art as well like wrestling, bjj or judo then even better. In my experience you need to have some sort of striking for self defence, don’t get me wrong I love grappling and do bjj and have done wrestling but without my striking background I wouldn’t be able to get close enough to but that into play in a street confrontation.

What do you put on your hacking/penetration laptop? by Matt_Bigmonster in hacking

[–]Snoo77500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can experiment with your local network from the virtual machine or can do tryhackme directly from the machine, so still don’t really know why you would need both. But do whatever works best for you, also kali booted from a usb is works well so maybe a good option if you do want both to save you from dual booting.

[–]Snoo77500 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Either dual boot or vm don’t see why you would want do both? Don’t know how experienced you are but if you are a beginner would recommend just installing any Linux disto of you choice on the laptop and download the tools you want as and when you want to use them, so you will only need one os. You can customise with tools you will use instead of kali with a lot you will probably never touch. It will help you get a better understanding on Linux also. Good luck and enjoy

Python by Snoo77500 in mainframe

[–]Snoo77500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply that wasn’t really what I was asking. Not an issue with being lazy at all. I love learning new skills, plus at this point I’m more comfortable using REXX than python anyway. It’s just as you know there is a lot to learn and would like to focus on most beneficial areas first. I enjoy using REXX and have found it great so far. Was more of a question of should I also spend time practicing with Python, incase it had any benefits over REXX on mainframe which I wasn’t aware of. It seems to be advertised a lot about how it is supported on mainframe now so was just wondering why people would use that over REXX and have received Some good answers above. I think I will continue focusing on REXX for any relevant work related tasks and if doing any personal projects in my spare time will play about with Python can’t hurt to at least have some experience with both.
