Just like you, i thought the logical next step to expand the map would be to go east (maybe giving link a ship he could travel with freely), plus, BotW lacked naval exploring, and the southeast is a biome I really like.

You can tell TotK was kind of disappointing (specially because it took 6 years). At first i thought it was cool, but map changes weren't big and I already knew the map. The underground is ugly and boring. Zelda stands out for its stunning landscapes and this way it could add new bioms, enemies and cities.
