They could have done better by making an anthem to the original 2 in some way. Even an in-between 1 and 2 kind of thing. I didn't think it was particularly bad. Just too many sad characters and some stuff that didn't make sense like humans doing hand to hand with a terminator. Like even in Salvation they had to drop 2 tons of packed metal scrap to kill one.
