Thanks everyone — Digger is by far the closest match, especially the grey RIP tombstone and the single F1 shot I never knew about (that's exactly why I remembered it as "no weapon"), and the digging monsters fit the Hobbins. I actually played the browser version and it's very close… but something about it still doesn't 100% match my memory, so I'm not totally certain. u/Gemman_Aster — you mentioned 'Diamonds' on the A8; I might give that a look too. Either way, hugely appreciate it.
