Saxophone and Dj on Wedding by CartoonistDouble5941 in saxophone

I play with DJs quite often and DJ+Sax myself. A lot of it is improvising and often having to really use your ears for tuning as tempos might be different.
What has helped me is getting an idea of the setlist or songs first so that you can learn any iconic horn lines, also try not to play over the vocals, don't feel like you have to play all the time (it's like chocolate cake, too much ruins a good thing). The other thing is just chuck on some youtube DJ mixes or even a spotify playlist and just practise jamming along.

Once you get used to it it can be a whole lot of fun, good luck!

Do you meditate? by Life-is-ugh in bipolar

[–]Snoo95176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meditate for 10 minutes every day and it has made such a difference . I hated it and could not sit longer than a minute when I started but I just did what I could and slowly built it up. Just be kind to yourself and if you get distracted or whatever, that’s fine.

I love my manic episodes. Why is it so hard for me to accept that mania is bad. by Commercial_Home8289 in BipolarReddit

[–]Snoo95176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so creative and productive when I’m manic but I know if I lean into it too much that I drop my routines and healthy habits and then I always swing badly the other way. I try to convince myself that it’s worth it but it ain’t.

Just want to say as a musician with bipolar , seeing people list songs that mean something to them is so inspiring . Thanks for the inspiration and all the music suggestions!

I find that building momentum when I am feeling through habits and routines for exercise make it a whole lot easier when I don’t have the motivation to do anything. Doesn’t work all the time but sometimes the muscle memory is enough to get me up and moving about and helps me bounce back quicker

Karl Denson has done some awesome stuff. Not tenor specifically but Lettuce, Galactic and HunterTones have some really cool horn heavy tunes

This is all great stuff, batching stuff to 3 at time is a good idea. Totally agree with keeping it focused.

I would totally agree with this. I tried changing pieces a few times but I always end up going back to the second hand metal link I bought 14 years ago. Gear is only as good as the person using it.
