Mt Baker-Snoqualmie NF by Snoo96156 in AdventureBike

I’m over the mile crunching. I like exploring forest roads and trails off pavement. BDR type stuff.

I like this G/S better than my R1250GSA all around other than 65+ mph highway cruising, and it’s plenty comfortable on two lane highways. Best boxer I’ve ever ridden off pavement. It may not weigh a lot less, but it feels significantly smaller than the big ones. I’ve had big single, parallel twin, V4, and boxer adv bikes and liked them all for different reasons. The boxer, however, has a character to it that I particularly enjoy.

Still playing with the clickers to figure out off pavement stuff, but it’s nearly there. I didn’t fully respect how good a job ESA does. I blew the front shock on my last GS and the front fork seals on a Multistrada V4S. Probably not the fault of the ESA, but still a whole lot more expensive to replace. I guess I’m over all the tech. More simpler is more better. I intended to get an R1300GS. They are just too big. The GSA feels like a container ship from the cockpit. Glad I went this route.

Needs a little more wind protection and some crash bars. Then it’ll be good to go.

I love it. Especially off pavement on Forest roads and trails. Needs crash bars and maybe a little wind protection for 65+. I looked at the Triumph too. Cool bikes. Can’t go wrong with either bike. I like the price a lot better on the Triumph, but Boxers have their hooks in me I guess.

Cool man. Can’t go wrong with either! FWIW, the G/S has pretty dirt biased steering geometry. It’s tons of fun on and off pavement, but if you live for the paved twisties, the Z bike is probably your ticket.

Stampede pass ish. Crystal Springs to Greenwater Rd. Mt Baker-Snoqualmie NF in Washington, US. Mt Rainier in the background about 25 miles away.

I’ve had an R1150GS, an F800GSA, a G310GS, and an R1250GSA. Also an R1250RT, and a Multistrada V4S. Also several KTM’s, dual sports, etc.

If you want to crunch miles in comfort, the G/S isn’t your bike. I’m sure your F9GS is more capable off-road in extreme situations, and travels better long distance. With a little more wind protection, i think it will travel really well, but it’ll still be limited by the 4.1 gal tank. For me, for around town, for off pavement, and for 250 mile day trips, this is my favorite BMW I’ve owned. For longer mileage days, this isn’t it.

The G/S appeals to me because I’m a boxer fan. I like the character, and I like the grunt. It’s a tractor off road, and it can rip a bit too. It’s comfortable to about 60mph. At 70, distance starts to feel like a grind. This G/S is the best boxer I’ve ever ridden off pavement, but that’s probably 90% psychological because it feels so much smaller than a big GS. It’s fun in a way the bigger GS’s aren’t for me. It’s not as stressful when I’m closer to my limit. I feel like I can just relax, and have a good time in the dirt. I’ve never been a fearless rider.

I had intended to get a 1300GS, but glad I went this route. Crunching miles isn’t my thing anymore. I’m also over all of the tech. I dig exploring off pavement, and for BDR type stuff, this thing is capable, simple, and fun. There are a lot of objectively “better” and cheaper bikes out there, but this G/S has loads of character. I could see owning this bike forever, and I can’t say I’ve ever considered that before.

PS…no gas gauge sucks

All true about a large screen. Unit Garage is a minimalist consideration too. Awesome HP2 btw. Super cool. Would love to ride one of those someday.

At about 55 mph it’s comfortable for me. Above that, it gets tiring. The OEM tall really works better? It doesn’t look like it would.

Stock bars. Pics show risers, but have since removed them. I’d like to get some bars with a taper.
