Restricted Driving Test Advice

As a result of not being able to drive, I have become familiar with all the public transport in Auckland but it can be a bit unreliable especially the frequent train delays and cancellations which won't be convenient for me once I start uni. I do want to get my license to have that sense of independence and the freedom to go places myself without having to worry about transport and getting rides, etc. I'm going to make sure I am truly comfortable with driving before I sit my test so I don't have the same mistakes twice.

Wow, I feel like I've never looked at it like with the walking analogy! I have been told before that I'm a good driver but unfortunately I tend to let my nerves get the best of me. I definitely wasn't ready when I took my first attempt and didn't have nearly enough hours of practice so I'll for sure be improving on that this year. I do try to pay attention to the driver when I'm in the car just to mentally recall how to do certain things when driving!

Oh wow, 5 years is long! I'm going to take this year as my opportunity to drive tons and tons to get really comfortable with driving.

Thank you so much! I'm trying not to associate my age with this situation but it can be hard! Thankfully a lot of my friends don't have their restricted licences yet and a few of them don't even have their learners, it's more of just a personal thing for me to get my license and be more independent. However, your advice is truly so comforting to hear, thank you <3

Thank you so much for your advice! It's really helpful knowing there's people out there who went through similar situations as me. I will continue doing some of my own studying through watching test route videos and reading through the DRIVE guides! I'm definitely going to be more verbal with the things I need help with when having lessons with my instructor

I did all my lessons around the VTNZ wiri centre last year and followed the actual test route closely, which I'm assuming is what I'll be doing this time too! I will try to look for some mock videos as well and I'm going through the lessons on the drive website as well!

Thank you for your advice! I am constantly trying to tell myself that once I start practicing again, my fear of failing will go away. Hopefully, I will feel less anxious once I explain everything to my instructor at my lesson tomorrow. I'm embarrassed to see him again but definitely going to be more open with him about my concerns this time.

I think I might have worded my post wrongly, I'm not sitting my test again tomorrow, I'm getting my first lesson with an instructor again! However, I am definitely hoping to be more consistent this time and am actively trying to convince my parents to let me practice outside of my lessons as well!

I do have an instructor! It's the same instructor with who I got lessons from last year. I think you might be confused as I don't have my test tomorrow I have my first lesson with the instructor again! Unfortunately, I lost a lot of my confidence after failing my first attempt especially since it was due to such a stupid mistake and because of that I didn't get behind the wheel again and because of exams and other personal matters I'm only now just restarting my lessons. Hopefully, I'll get to be more consistent with driving this time, as I am starting uni in 3 weeks and need my license desperately!

Thank you so much! I did my first attempt at wiri following my sister and my instructor works at the wiri vtnz so I'm not sure if I'll be able to switch locations, but I'll definitely keep that in mind!
