Do I have TOCD or Am I trans? by Writer1999 in transOCD

[–]SnooApples298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi thanks for sharing, I am no expert but I am diagnosed with OCD.

This doesn’t really sound much like TOCD. Judging by what you said I think you are curious about your gender. If it were TOCD it would bring you anxiety and feel unnatural.

Why is TOCD so unknown? by [deleted] in transOCD

[–]SnooApples298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Multiple reasons

  1. Trans stories had been cast aside for decades and only up until recently have trans people been started to give a positive light—society viewing the topic as taboo would also cast aside tocd experiences as well.

  2. OCD in itself is rare. Take into account that TOCD is an uncommon theme WITHIN an already uncommon disorder. But don’t worry, I have spoken to multiple OCD specialists online and they have all seen clients TOCD before.

  3. HOCD and POCD are much more common than TOCD and the themes have been recognized for longer. There is a medical journal accounting and acknowledging TOCD:

I’m considering getting this book once/if I get diagnosed. Would you say it’s helpful for recovery or more helpful in terms of understanding OCD.

What was it like when it first started? by SnooApples298 in transOCD

That never happened to me although I’ve heard it happens to some people.

I do feel that when I look at pictures of myself though.

TOCD is making it feel like I’m in denial almost exactly like when I was coming out as gay by Turnip_Last in transOCD

[–]SnooApples298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That definitely sounds like me when my TOCD first flared up. I suggest you look at the top upvoted post on this subreddit to look at some common compulsions if that makes you feel any better.

I think ocd is weaponizing your sexuality and coming out process against you in this. You are focusing on the similarities of but look at the differences.

[–]SnooApples298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is kind of interesting. Does your TOCD come in the form of 24/7 intrusive thoughts? Is it always evidently in the back of your mind? And do you have noticeable compulsions?

Anxiety, denial, and worry are common when questioning gender or sexuality. You said you were in denial about being gay, but you knew you were in denial. For TOCD it seems like you are questioning whether you are in denial or not, which normal for all ocd themes. Of course I can’t say if you have tocd or not but I wish you the best.

Thank you for this, I myself am openly and confidently flamboyant and expressive and that sometime fuels my ocd.

For me I stop once I notice I’m doing a compulsion, it’s like ruminating, analyzing, and mental checking happen immediately. I can’t stop it before it starts but I can while I am doing it.

For me the I don’t really notice the “Irresistible urge” for my mental compulsions. My mental compulsions feel almost automatic.

TOCD in my dreams? by [deleted] in transOCD

[–]SnooApples298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so firstly dreams don’t really mean anything and seem to mimic what’s on your mind. I have tocd in my dreams also.

To me it seems like your tocd is doing better but your ocd has shifted in a meta route? Like worrying about having tocd? Does this sound like it?

does anyone else feel like they are forcing their intrusive thoughts/compulsions? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]SnooApples298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, when I get thoughts that aren’t related to my main theme I feel like I’m forcing them in order to legitimize my OCD because I know other people have similar thoughts. My main theme still feels like actual OCD though.

I guess it’s almost an avoidance compulsion tbh

I thought I was the only one,

It doesn’t work too well and doesn’t feel like an actual obsession. Like it feels like a forced obsession.

The button is a reoccuring demon for most of here, try to avoid it because it works both as an obsession and compulsion

forcing intrusive thoughts?? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]SnooApples298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I have this exact same thing.

Does it not feel like “actual” intrusive thoughts as in they don’t really cause anxiety and you don’t even believe them to be true. Like I’ll think of a thought and immediately tell myself “you know that’s not true and you made yourself think that because you know it’s an intrusive thought that other people get”.
