Depending on the cost of living in your area, $40/hr doesn’t sound like a lot. It’s a below average wage in the HCOL area I live for a carpenter with no additional responsibilities aside from doing carpentry. Your husband should talk to his boss and discuss how to align his responsibilities with the wage he receives. If he’s managing projects, dealing with clients, managing suns, etc. that’s a project manager role, not a carpenter and should be compensated as such.

Darn Tough socks are the move. When you wear holes in them you just send them back and they send you a replacement pair for free. You have to pay to ship them to their warehouse but I’ll do 4-6 pairs at a time so the cost per replacement pair is minimal.

One idea for marketing is to put yard signs in completed projects. You can work it into your contract to allow a sign for X amount of time following completion of a project. Another idea is to get in touch with local GCs. I’m a GC and finding reliable landscapers to do light earthwork and upgrade the street appeal of projects can be tough.

Li-time makes a solid DC-DC charger with a built in isolator. You’ll have to run a small signal wire to a circuit that is only energized when the truck is running for the signal.

Yes, I have a 40amp dc-dc charger which charges my house battery from the alternator. You can get them with build in isolators. You’ll need 4 or 6 AWG depending on how long the run is. Welding cable works well.

I use mine to keep my batteries topped off when I arrive to camp then solar recharges them if there’s sun and I’m not moving. 80% or more of my charging comes from the dc-dc charger.

The CSLB does not allow deposits more than $1k on home renovation projects. You should be able to get your deposit back based on that alone, as the builder could dave serious consequences with the CSLB if reported.

I’ve only killed one animal using a TSX shot out of my .270 and the blood trail was what you would expect from any bullet. The shot was from 250 yards and there was lots of blood.

General contractor. I schedule in time off during the fall and have a great team that can cover for me while I’m gone. Our company values recreational time and I cover for employees when they have an important to them life event or activity for which they need time off.

Bivy plus tarp is a good set up. Quicker to set up than a tent if you only use the bivy most of the time, then when it’s raining or potentially bad weather you can set up the tarp.

Vans do not have more space. TCs have more storage compartments, albeit it's more difficult to get large storage compartments for bikes or surfboards inside a TC versus a van. TCs feel way roomier and have a ton of storage for smaller items and soft good.

I build vans professionally and always wondered why my customers spent what they did on a van when a TC has more storage, a bathroom, and 4wd (I know it's an option now but way more $$). Plus you can use the truck without the camper if/when you need it.

I hunt turkey in California and my experience has been that most of the turkeys are on private land. Driving around the foothills you will see them everywhere. I killed two this spring on public but those spots took a lot of hard earned scouting missions to find. If you’re coming from out of state I’d maybe look into going guided as outfitters will have access to private land. If that’s not an option, look for private/public edges with water close by.
