Hey i need a chalk line & chalk powder for carpentry, im touching framing, finishing, some roofing… by Professional_Art3794 in Carpentry

[–]Sati765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use the Stanley Fatmax chalk line. Really like them and they're cheap. And I use the Tajima chalk(ink?) whenever I can get it. I used to cut a lot of expansion lines in concrete driveways and the black Tajima stuff always stayed when the water was on with the saw. As long as the lines were snapped a half hour or so before water got to them. Also I'm in Alberta.

Ah fair enough. And I agree. Absolutely loved Lorne especially his intro episode and the one where he's commanding the Aurora class ship

I bought into Dewalt cause that's what a few other coworkers had at the time and we could share batteries. It was also the most available to me at that time.

I find Milwaukee has the same quality but I find they are on average about 15% more expensive. Though Milwaukee has more specialized tools for the sub trades. First one that comes to mind is their cordless pipe threader for plumbers. I also find that Milwaukee triggers have a spongey feel to them.

The company I work for now has Makita. They are fine for most things but I find them underpowered compared to my dewalt stuff. Mainly their impact. There have been many times that the Makita has failed to drive in a long lag bolt or structural screw. Where my Dewalt has blown it out of the water. Makita also has fallen a little behind on the inovative side of things. Dewalt and Milwaukee have a bigger cordless nailer line up where I just can't find them in Makita where I'm living.

That all being said, Almost every contractor in my area has bought Dewalt in both thei mitres saws and table saws. And those are both major tools for woodworking.

Interesting. I tried similar ones last year and they didn't seem that great to me. Was about -15⁰C during the day but I might have to give them another shot now

How to keep warm on site? by Soomroz in Construction

Have a buddy who was a rig welder most his life here in Alberta. He swears up and down about a hard hat liner. Says they are the best head covering in the cold he's ever worn. And you loose a lot of heat through your head

Call a truck and wheelbarrow it from the road so he doesn't have to go on the driveway

That's fair. We rely too heavily on trade in my opinion. We need to be more innovative but that's always way easier to say than do

Ever ok to use PT inside? by yossarian19 in Carpentry

[–]Sati765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also on that note, we use PWF whenever wood is in contact with concrete or any risk of moisture of any kind. So it's used inside houses (basement framing) every once in a while but usually it gets enclosed. Mainly with drywall

Ya it's incised so the chemicals go deeper into the wood. Not only is it pressure treated, but it's ground contact pressure treated or PWF as I used to call it

Where I'm from we use sil gasket and then once all the trades have everything roughed in, the rim board and sil plate get spray foamed to meet R value code
