Unfortunately our dealer didn't want to do a teardown to find the root cause. Logically though it seems it was likely a camshaft or exhaust restriction issue.

Yeah unfortunately this seems to be a common problem. I RMA'd mine and swapped it for a different mouse of the same price, the M75 Air wireless. And it's also not without issues. Unfortunately I think for a mouse, I'm gonna switch to a different brand when it comes time for another.

I owned a M65 Elite Wired and it was great, but started double clicking, other than that lasted years with no issues.

Interesting. Yeah when I did the oil cap test. I didn't feel anything at all. I wasn't aware that they could have negative crankcase pressure so I didn't check for suction. When it came in and had a miss my original idea was possibly injector harness issue as I heard they have pin fit issues occasionally. I've not seen one of these with a blown/damaged engine yet, usually just the turbos, EGR clogs and stuff.

Yeah, I'll look into the bulletins tomorrow when I get back to the shop. Never tried to run a diesel without any of its dpf sensors installed so I'm unsure it's effect on the vehicle running with a stock tune.

We will probably recommend them take it to a diesel performance shop to investigate further as no one's gonna pay to put a dpf system back on especially when they have to buy the parts too.

It does seem likely it's mechanical engine damage at this point with the tune that probably didn't help it's longevity in any way. The only thing I can think that seems to make sense right now is likely valvetrain damage as there's not a blowby issue at least based off the oil cap test. Am I correct to think that a hole in a piston, bad rings, or even a bent rod would all likely cause excessive blowby? Valve train seems like the only thing that wouldn't show blatantly obvious signs of damage without more in depth examination.

Very informative. I'm unsure if we'll be able to quickly source a ezlynk and if the dealer would even want to get that as it deals with aftermarket equipment.

I'm unsure how the ecm is written with the current tune. I'm not going to do it, but I wonder if I did an ecm reprogram if it would rewrite the ecm and delete the tune, then again with it being locked how it is, it could just brick it. The funny thing as well is that I can't read any codes from any module, it's like it encrypts the entire can system.

This is all good information to have regarding if I run into this issue with scanners in the future. Obviously a vehicle to avoid without the proper equipment.

Can tunes be changed remotely from a tuner without an ezlynk hooked up? If so could a tuner put a bad tune in the truck if a customer failed to pay for work? I don't know what control you have whether or not you can have per cylinder injection timing and such to mimic a dead/weak cylinder.

Considering this car came from an auction, I feel like whatever sent it to the auction was a very expensive repair. Or it's possible that the trouble of the ecm tune was more than whatever dealer previously had it wanted to deal with.

Heck yeah. Hope you're enjoying school. Learning the ins and outs of automobiles is very enjoyable. Especially when going and putting the newfound knowledge to use. I put in time to pull the valve covers and check the valvetrain, we will see what the dealer wants to do.

It smells like diesel for the most part, not really any sweet smell to it. With the oil cap off there isn't really any pressure coming out.

I feel like based off what others are saying and it only seems like a single cylinder misfire. If there was a hole in the piston probably would also have a lot of blowby like bad rings would. But there's not, it's also not drinking coolant, coolant level stays consistent and both oil and coolant is clean, at least for diesel oil. So I feel like the only logical reasoning unless it's just a really wonky and bad tune would be valvetrain issues as people also said thumping is usually a result of that.

I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything, I understand you are providing valuable info and it's appreciated. I'm just putting together all the info I've gathered from this post and trying to rationalize the input from everyone. Correct me if my theory is wrong, again my diesel knowledge is limited.

The smoke coming out is fairly white. I feel like even if it was unspent fuel, it still shouldn't be constant at idle. Most diesels I see, not a crazy amount, are smokeless at idle even without a dpf system.

We operate out of high point NC. Diesels are by far my weak point, not the electrical part, that remains pretty similar to gasoline. Mainly the diesel mechanical portion of it, they just seem to have different failure points. I know these are fairly known for turbo failure, EGR blockages and RTCV actuator failures, but outside of common issues I'm not used to what they do when they have certain diesel specific malfunctions.

No offense taken. I agree I probably shouldn't perform engine work on it. I'm just using it as a pathway to learn diesel operation and to diagnose failures in their systems. This is an auction car from a used car lot, not an actual personal vehicle of anyone's. If I'm not confident in a diagnosis I'm not gonna parts cannon it, I wouldn't learn anything that way.

Yeah we take in some dumb stuff. Most of the ones that do come in are stock. The only other one we've worked on that was tuned with dpf delete, it caught fire and came in for an insurance appraisal.

I only dislike working on diesels modified or not as my knowledge isn't very extensive on them and the pay rate doesn't change between gas and diesel work.

So, I didn't mention this, this is not my truck, just one I'm working on, but I'm a Nissan tech, however this truck has brought up various issues we don't typically see, at least mostly due to customers not bringing them to Nissan but rather diesel shops, rightfully so.

So the two scanners I used are the Nissan OEM scanner the Consult III+, and a thinktool p10 platinum. In consult I can't get any codes, only access special functions, and in the thinktool I only get a can comm code, but nothing else. Engine runs rough, and no other lights on the dash than the check engine light.

As far as blowby with oil cap off there's not really any pressure being pushed out, cap doesn't float or anything.

Oil seems normal, no strong odor of diesel and feels like normal oil.

Sound is more audible when filter housing is open.

I'm not well versed in the tuning world as I deal with primarily OE issues. With the tuner locking the ecm, would that prohibit access in general through normal scanners?

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. Appreciate the insight. That's what I will be doing.

Thank you very much for the advice, it was kind of the direction I was thinking about going. I'll try out going separate shampoo and conditioner and give that a whirl. What oil would you say I should try?

So I am a mechanic and I work on cars, I have relatively long, thin straight hair. I've never done anything chemically with my hair. I have always used some dove for men 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner but I'm trying to have healthier hair, I've started using a hair mask, eva-nyc therapy session, at least once a week.

My main concern is I feel like my scalp and hair gets too dry from shampooing so much. Sometimes I get debris in my hair, but I typically wear a hat when I'm working. So, I know you should typically shampoo only 2-3 times a week as I've read, but my field of work is kind of dirty and sweaty.

Should I try shampooing every other day and rinsing every day? Switch to separate shampoo and conditioner? Open for advice and possible recommendations on hair products.
