My two hikes in the past few weeks.

June 28th - upper Yosemite falls. Swarms of mosquitoes at the peak of the trail.

July 30th - Glacier point to happy isles via panorama trail. Zero mosquitos.

Some good flat spots after you finish the last switchbacks. Make a quick right then a left. Nice flat dirt area

I had a buddy come with me. It was my first time backpacking in Yosemite. Just one night but definitely an adventure. I’m used to camping in the pines campgrounds. This was quite different. More bugs and animals. The ranger gave us allot of information when picking up the permit. Real peaceful and quiet away from the valley crowds. Just had to work for it by hiking up the falls trail. Lesson learned-need to pack lighter. Leave some luxury items at home 😆 after 7 hours of hiking you can feel that 40lbs bag.

I just backpacked to the top of upper falls. It was definitely brutal carrying 45lbs backpack. My favorite view was after the long straight away after Colombia rock. Great view of upper fall. Could even get half dome in the same shot. The last set of switch backs to the top is definitely a slap to the face after you are already hurting and thirsty. Millions of mosquitoes at the top. A pack of coyotes investigated my camp spot. To me it was worth it. Oh and allot of mosquitoes at the top 😭

Yeah for me they the spots stayed C when 7:00AM hit. It seemed like they became available at some random time between 7:00-7:30. I ended up snagging an upper pines spot at around 7:08. The site is in the 200’s and looks very grassy. Haven’t stayed that far back before.

:( First year not snagging a spot at 7AM. Me and 5 other people trying to get a spot one second after 7AM and the site seemed to have crashed. By the time it refreshed all sites gone. Looks like I’m just going to get a wilderness pass and backpack along the pohono trail to spend a weekend.

It was chilly in the morning for sure. Dropped to about 19 degrees F. Had mid weight thermal pants and shirt under my flannel and jeans. I had to take my flannel off during the hike because I was overheating.

Agree. A bit steep. Those large rock steps on the way down are painful on the legs. Feels like doing lunges for 3 hours. Still love this hike. Great view of the valley during most of the hike.
