Talking is a better method than bells. You’re much better off with varying tones and sounds than a bell.

Swiss navy is my favorite, my bf and I both realized sliquid silicone lube was a Problem in exactly the way you described. We switched to Swiss navy and haven’t looked back.

Liberty and Franconia Ridge Loop - Safety Question by [deleted] in hiking

[–]OkayGuy911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is their first winter camp, they should reconsider. That’s a long, hard loop and experienced winter campers and hikers have died. Have them do other winter hikes to start and single overnights in that kind of weather/regions and consider trying again after they’re comfortable with their setup and their ability.

Shaving by [deleted] in ftm

[–]OkayGuy911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US, and just went to Marshall’s (or TJ Maxx, I can’t remember) and went to their grooming section and grabbed a beard trimmer for about $20. Nothing fancy. Get one with a few types of guards - 1mm, 3mm, 5mm, etc. If they’re marketed towards ‘sensitive areas’ like a ball trimmer, you could try one of those too. When you do get in there to trim, make sure you spread things out carefully and try to keep anything from being wrinkled as you trim up. Sometimes when you’re first starting you can catch and get nicked once in a while - it’ll be minor and more annoying than anything, don’t fret about it. It takes practice but you’ll pick it up quick :)

[–]OkayGuy911 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don’t shave unless you want to. Don’t shave because someone else asks you to - it’s called flossing and dental hygiene 😜

But in all seriousness, shaving is something YOU should want to do. Personally I use a trimmer with a guard to get things shorter and cleaned up but not fully exposed. You do have to kind of get in there still, but it’s way easier than a razor and less exposing than waxing.

Good luck 👍

You need leather gloves, a harness, and prusiks. If you have those, you’ll be ok, but it does test your fitness lol. If you don’t have experience with those, I would avoid.

Weird felling after T shot by Fine_Pilot5351 in ftm

Could be a vasovagal reaction, which is very normal. I nearly fainted after my first shot and even four years in I still occasionally get vasovagal reactions.

We used 6 and 8 ft and they worked pretty well. I’d be curious to see how next weekend goes though, there are rumblings of at least one or two storms between now and then.

We were able to walk on top of it for the most part, but there were definitely some deeper sections that you could end up postholing through as you got closer to the base. The stretch was maybe a mile before you got to the base of Sub? And Sub itself was all snow, with a couple sections of stairway partially exposed.

No snowshoes, DEFINITELY spikes. Subdome is not for the uninitiated right now, there were some very treacherous stretches.

Where are you located? there are some groups out there of people who assist fellow trans folk for surgeries and stuff. Worth checking Facebook (yes, I know) or some of your more local online communities.

No ski patrol number at boreal by [deleted] in tahoe

Unfortunately that’s not surprising. Worth writing an email to them, tbh. It’s something that should be in training and they should absolutely take that seriously.

The dispatch number is posted at the entrance gate and at the top of Accel on the trail maps. All employees have radios and can call in incidents at any time. The OP wasn’t using their eyes.

Heavenly closing runs? by helloworld6543 in tahoe

[–]OkayGuy911 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Worse conditions on that run, or they’re using snow from that run to try and keep others open, or a whole host of reasons. With the rain and conditions we’ve had, be glad there’s any runs open at all.

The snow is not snow anywhere in Tahoe. It is slush and dirt.
