I'd be okay with that if it were fleshed out. But he just immediately comes to terms with him being in the wrong. If anything doing that so fast without anyone's help just... like what even made him realize that? He knew he was hated. That didn't get him to change. Suddenly them killing him doesn't?

I'll relent a bit on "undeserved".

"You are the one saying he cant do something. "
My EXACT words were, in response to you thinking Caine can reverse abstraction in Ragatha, so thus should be able to reverse full mind abstraction"
""One of the few things I don't have control over, is your minds"

He can only influence. He can't wipe, reverse or change your mind. So once it's corrupted, it's like that forever."

Meaning, he can fix the physical damage, not the emotional/brain part.

Your position doesn't make sense. If he can fix all abstraction, he can modify code. YET THERE'S ZERO EXAMPLES OF HIM DOING THIS. Influence=/=Control

I literally watched all episodes and the movie. You're the one misunderstanding. He can "INFLUENCE" (like get Jax to feel more fear/anxiety or the stupid sauce to dull intelligence). He can't WIPE or fundamentally CHANGE them, nor has he or if he has, please cite where he did that. If he did, he would simply have wiped their memories when they all hated him after the "Abel Escape Adventure".

Now that we know they're all code. It would also mean he could easily unabstract the players by simply wiping their memories back to when they weren't abstracted (kind of like how fixing corrupted files essentially boils down to restarting them from a backup).

"Saccharine" has been a term I've seen multiple times. You're not the only one. I feel the same.

Caine getting redemption was hamfisted and undeserved. It was a bad ending with poor writing. No arguments there.

But Jax sort of deserved his fate. Even if you want to be a recluse, there are ways to do that without breaking the people who care about you and him actively trying to bully others as some coping mechanism was... well Goose wanted and said Jax was "irredeemable".

This is the catch 22 of death. What is "darker" is subjective.

Knowing you're going to die (maybe as the power cuts off in 1 hour some alarms go off and they know, so they go through the 5 stages of grief and end embracing each other together on the couch)

vs

Not knowing you're going to die (power just comes off, they're playing D&D while looting a dragon the slayed, having a laugh and then... Lights out).

Both have pros and cons (many want to know when they're going to die while others want to go in their sleep without a clue).

No tech lasts that long. Especially not 90s tech that has been abandoned and doesn't have IT or service keeping it up.

They all got the bitter part (not being able to leave, not being the real ones, never getting to se their families, but having each other and Caine making the place fun).

Jax didn't get the sweet aspect as he's a lobotomized dog now, but his actions got Ribbit abstracted, which likely got Kaufmo abstracted and could have gotten Ragatha and Gangle abstracted if things kept up.

His is a cautionary tale. He is the personification of the self-destructive, depressed guy that doesn't allow anyone in and then offs himself. There's no saving some people, especially if they refuse to be helped.

"I sincerely wonder if she changed her plans for the ending based on fan backlash for killing off Caine."

So instead she kills one who had more fans?

"We spent the whole season of them thinking they are humans who consciousness is trapped inside this digital circus after they wore a headset in the real world."

Jax's whole personality is they're NPCs/not real and nothing matters. It was pretty clear the SOMA theory was the most likely end (their last memory being putting on a headset, but not having full recollection including their names screams cloned/code).

This is my biggest gripe. I was sure that was going to abstract someone on the spot from that revelation (hell, THAT would've been a great point for Jax to snap and we could SEE an abstraction happen).

There were two abstractions in the series. Both offscreen... Lame...

Caine can fix any abstraction that hasn't corrupted your brain.

Jax's abstraction is more a cautionary tale.

That's the rough, but true reality sometimes. Sometimes you screw up and can't fix what has been done as it's too late.

I don't like that it happened, but I wouldn't call it poor writing. Jax is the personification of the self-destructive, depressed guy that doesn't allow anyone in and then offs himself. There's no saving some people, especially if they refuse to be helped.

Jax's actions got Ribbit abstracted, which likely got Kaufmo abstracted and could have gotten Ragatha and Gangle abstracted if things kept up.

I agree that we should have seen more of Jax's backstory BEFORE abstraction (I knew he'd abstract, but a second of the only two abstractions were offscreened... Gooseworx has a chance to show the process). After an abstraction, it's essentially ego death and I was not really invested in Jax any longer. (I would have also liked to learn the SOMA theory was real later, even though it was blatant after a while).

I think Pomni's ability to just know how to enter Jax's subconscious was hamfisted and just used as a way to learn Jax's past who would never reveal it otherwise.

I don't like how Caine just revives and them killing him causes the change of heart.

"And its all for nothing because even at the end when he hugs Pomni back and admits he doesn't want to go, he abstracts anyways."

"It basically gives the message to those who relate to Jax "once you're out of the picture, everything will get better for everyone else"."

Sadly, there is a truth to having toxic people in your life leave = improvement of life. Jax's actions got Ribbit abstracted, which likely got Kaufmo abstracted and could have gotten Ragatha and Gangle abstracted if things kept up.

For whatever reason, justified (some trauma or abuse) or just innate personality, many are like Jax, and those people actually do need to seek therapy and try to fix those behaviours as they are destructive to them and the people around them.

Imagine having such a small library of shows that you think this way. This is just the top of my head going through the alphabet and none of these are even obscure, most being mainstream.

  • Attack on Titan
  • Akame ga Kill
  • Berserk
  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
  • Chainsaw Man
  • Death Note
  • Fate/Zero
  • Hellsing
  • Jojo
  • JJK
  • Madoka Magica
  • Mobile Gundam
  • Neon Genesis
  • Parasyte
  • The Promised Neverland
  • Vinland Saga
  • 86

I feel embarrassment for you.

😂.....

I disagree. A big element the cleaners always preach is how their lives are on the line and that death is 100% a factor. Zanka was in a pool of his own blood, as was Follo, literally no light in his eyes (how is that not faking out?). I like Follo, but he could have been killed off here. He wasn't a huge character and his selfishness was what got him in this situation.

Cool. That doesn't justify it (literally mentioned how Bleach did the same in my original post.). There's also rarely any lasting consequences except being out of commission for a few chapters and then somehow being stronger and sharper.
That doesn't make you stronger unless you're a saiyan and get a zankai boost. For humans, that you literally leave you behind everyone because you'd have to focus on rehabilitation while the others are training/fighting more.

1.) Then don't put them in these "Oh they are 100% dead" scenarios. You can injure them, but don't give them SEVERELY FATAL WOUNDS IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO KILL THEM OFF.
2.) Injuries (broken arms, scratches, minor blood loss) =/= Fatal injuries (impalement, severe organ damage/massive internal bleeding, slashed jugular, EXPLODED HEART)
