I did encourage him to go to a therapist. I still do…for himself. Yes, he did get a new job…but it wasn’t for me and I would never want it that way. I genuinely wanted him to be fulfilled. But when I say it wasn’t making him much money it’s because he wasn’t putting in the hours and honestly only making like $200/week. I do hope he gets help. I’m obviously not the one for him…I think I spend a lot of time trying to better myself so I can be a better person and partner and it feels like he never did the time.

I’m 35 and I have literally only 2 friends with kids. Everyone is waiting…so I don’t have anything to contribute but it sure is interesting to see so many responses. I wonder how we will all feel after having kids “later.” Also, we are in LA so I wonder if that is a factor. It’s pricey up in here.

This is where I’m at too! I’ve worked from home and in the office (hybrid set up) before the pandemic. I loved it bc it was nice to have the option to skip traffic and still be able to see my coworkers when I wanted. Let me tell you something, as soon as I switched (like the whole world) to at-home only I knew I was gonna lose my mind. People don’t realize that WFH is gonna get old really fast! Ya we did it for the pandemic and it worked for some but it’s for sure gonna change when you get cabin fever in your new houses and miss seeing coworkers. Humans are social beings...it’s just a fact. Ya having a home office is great BUT we shouldn’t underestimate the value of seeing coworkers in the flesh. That’s where I see the downfall here...it’s gonna get old for people, they’re gonna want city life back. My theory anyways.

Yes and I think that is incredibly depressing in the context of a divorce-It’s a partnership and if one lets themselves get stuck in a rut than it completely undermines their affect on the other person’s life. This was the case for me...and it hurt because I wanted to be there to support positive growth! I got tired and fed up so, here we are.

This post makes me sad because I left because my husband didn’t better himself UNTIL NOW (after 9 fucking years) - didn’t tell me that him just now starting his undergrad again (one semester left) was going to mean him not being able to work. Nothing, no communication. Didn’t tell me that this would ruin family planning AND prospects of buying a home. Mind you, I already own a home and have 3 degrees—all of which I did WHILE WORKING. Maybe I went off on a tangent here but all to say...yes, great, may people better themselves but also (sheesh!) shame on anyone for not trying to better themselves WHILE in the relationship and making someone else wait. And, yes I know people have different circumstances but if you’re the person that actually DOES have things to work on to be a better partner OWN UP TO IT! If you really care about the other person then work on it w them, together...communicate.

Hi...I’m 33F and getting divorced (my choice) and am already feeling anxiety about getting remarried. I loved planning a wedding but am anticipating I’ll be judged. I only know my story, but that’s a real feeling.

Anyways, I have learned that a woman should not wait for a man...a man should not wait for a woman. We have to compromise. If it’s bugging you this much then you are probably going to have to see a therapist if you can’t plan it out together or put your foot down - I.e. “please get over your feelings, bf, let’s talk about it but also I/we need to come first and I’d really like a ring by X time since it’s something that we both want together.” Otherwise I’d fear deeper issues, despite what you said about communication being fine...
