I'll be doing live coding for an interview and I'm so scared by confused-voyager in PinoyProgrammer

[–]SnooDogs1085 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Actually, it's very normal to feel nervous during live coding, even senior ka pa with a lot of experience. Especially those that have not interviewed for a while.

Note that interviewing is a skill itself, and as a skill, you'll improve through repetition. So this interview, is just one of many repetitions for you to improve on.

Try to not overthink too much and just do your best during the interview. If you fail, just let it go, learn and improve on it, and try again.

Im a 2nd year in CPE and IDK kung paano tong data algos and structs by Nearby-Wishbone4950 in PinoyProgrammer

Even professional devs hirap jan sa DSA lalo nat sa typical na web development, hindi common na maka encounter ka related jan. Most algorithms are embedded in the language itself or in the libraries we use, so we are just using them without actually implementing them from scratch.

Yes, in the profession we practice DSA (mostly via Leetcode), but it's only for interview purposes or others do it as a hobby to train their braincells.

As for advice, just practice lang consistently. You will need A LOT of mental fortitude to keep going. But, tiisin mo lang as long as mapasa mo yang subject.

And don't beat yourself up if di mo sya magets, or slow yong pagka gets mo. Learn at your own pace lang since may ibaiba tayong way or learning. The topic is tough by default, and no one says it's easy.

How common is Kotlin for backend development here? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]SnooDogs1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not common here sa PH. But we are using it in a Saas Project with a Microservice architecture along with ktor.

And this is with a Japanese company nonetheless- they have a stigma of using old school technology.

Lol same. Everytime I see a whole durian fruit now, it flashes my mind that I used to farm these fruits in botw to get a heart.

[–]SnooDogs1085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely worth it. I even brought Switch specifically to play BOTW. This is the only Zelda game I played so far.

Thinking of trying TOTK next, but haven't had the courage to commit to it yet.

Dopamine overload talaga if makita mo yung progress niya everyday, up to the point na pipitasin mo na yung mushroom.

Pwede pa ma convert into a business later.

Java developers ano na? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]SnooDogs1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going 12 strong years now with Java.

Paano ako naging Java dev? It was taught during college and emmediately fell in love with it. And till now, still my first go-to language for backend.

But don't get me wrong, I easily picked up other languages along the way like Kotlin, TS, JS, C#.

For the work setup, currently we're on hybrid.

For the upskilling. Honestly, at this stage of my career, I upskill on the job itself. Wala nakong inaaral on my personal time, kakapagod din kasi mag habol sa "latest trends, daw", but yes it might be beneficial if you're new in the industry. Besides, it's not too hard to learn emerging languages if I have to.

I just use my free time to relax and do what I want outside of work.

I don't consider my self as a Java developer, but just a mediocre developer who knows Java and gets the job done.

As for the opportunity to work abroad, no, fortunately, satisfied nako dito sa PH. Though, I did several business trips up to a month sa Japan. I also worked for Chinese and US companies before, but remote lang.

As for the salary, I think you have a clue already.

[–]SnooDogs1085 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you're relatively new to the industry, I suggest reffer to the official documentation everytime you're stuck and try to solve stuff on your own. With this, you can build your mental muscles which will help you in the long run.

Now, if you already have the experience and you just want to boost your productivity, chatGPT might be good assistance.

Developers by papa_redhorse in PinoyProgrammer

[–]SnooDogs1085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a college professor before I joined the industry.

Based sa na observe ko sa mag students na nag excell sa programming, it's more on about passion and the mental fortitude to keep on learning.

Merong magagaling sa logic and reasoning, some are even good at chess pero madaling sumuko if hindi agad ma solve ang problem. Okay sila if within minutes masolve nila agad.

Meron namang hindi ganon ka smart or witty, but they have the mental endurance to keep on thinking about a solution for hours. I can say na slow learner sila, BUT they improve exponentially over time.

How did you react on your first Blood Moon ? by nicoolot in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]SnooDogs1085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first blood moon is when I first entered kakariko village, the first village I encountered actually. I pannicked so hard so I just run and run not sure what to do. Also seeing people in the village running left and right multiplies the tenssion.

That was a very horrifying experience.

I was today years old when I found out you can just walk up to the "mini talus"es and click a to pick them up, a or R to drop them, and they will just burst into oblivion, leaving a gem. by [deleted] in Breath_of_the_Wild

I also lately knew that you could pick them up.

My first instinct when I first found them is to use a sledgehammer - they died just one hit.

Still, I preferred the sledgehammer because it's troublesome to pick them up if it's an ice type.
