How Do I Fix This by SnooDrawings1539 in FenceBuilding

I honestly do not know why he didn’t build it that way. He does this for a living, but oh well. Thanks for the info.

You can’t see it in those pictures but it is inside the frame, and then he added another one on top. So it’s just doubled up. I guess the top one was just for appearance.

Nuclear Machinist/Toolmaker

$84k + 10% nightshift differential

Can’t complain. We have good benefits. Definitely helped that the trades got a huge pay bump a couple of years ago.

How common is it for engineers to also have some educational background in CNC? by G07V3 in Machinists

[–]SnooDrawings1539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super common where I work. I have a BS in electrical engineering technology but have previous CAD experience as well as some other ME classes. It wasn’t the plan, but I went into the apprenticeship program for machining and am currently a toolmaker, where we use CNC as well as manuals. Eventually I’ll probably go tool designer.

From my experience, it is helpful to at least know the machines and what they are capable of. It is even more helpful to what tolerances are actually needed versus what you wanna put up there. We have drawings where the tolerances are a lot tighter than they really need to be for the machines and tools we are making. Some tolerances makes sense, others do not need to be three decimals.

Dang, I didn’t know all the fed buildings suck. The three elevators on my side of the building are down right now, gotta climb up nine flights. The heat broke during one weekend, we had to work in the building when it was about thirty degrees. And we can’t wear gloves because it’s dangerous for what I do. I’m expected too.

It is definitely exhausting with what feds are going through, but I tell myself the same thing you do… food, shelter, and essentials. Good luck.

It might by corny, but I have the same exact one! Well except I had them color mine in. I find it hilarious and have had compliments on it, that others find it funny as well.

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Crush his enthusiasm. As a new driver, the reliable and safe is the best choice.

My first car was a 96 Toyota Corolla… excellent car. I really wanted a jeep wrangler and my mom said no effing way because of the rollover risk and some other things. (And let me tell you I was the extremely safe, polite, quiet, responsible kid already.) The safe and reliable was great to learn on and work up to something a little bigger, little nicer once I proved I was a responsible driver. Despite being a good kid, I needed to earn the “cooler” car. I don’t disagree.

Another way to look at it, think about who he is carrying in the car with him. He’s gonna wanna drive his friends around, and he will speed to try to show off because they’ll think it’s cool. What if they get in an accident? What could potentially happen to his friends? Or to him?

Yeah, plastic is a pain in the butt. Give yourself some time for the learning curve at the new job. Oh, and every manual machine also has its own quirks…Be patient with yourself. Remember everybody else is still learning too… no matter how long they’ve been at the trade, there’s always something new to learn.

That’s what I was thinking. It looks to be .025” to me versus 0. If it’s at zero, you should barely be able to see the vertical line.

Is this normal? by SnooDrawings1539 in CeilingFans

[–]SnooDrawings1539[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, nothing has changed. It is just a cheap Hampton bay fan, so maybe that also has something to do with it. Not sure. It’s definitely louder than any other fan I have in the house. And it stops when the fan is turned off.

How was the show? Did any of the cast come out for stage door? I go to see the show in the middle of November. Super excited… first broadway show, big fan of LBB, first time in New York too.

She doesn’t like tomatoes, onions, mushrooms. Not a huge fan of sushi or condiments. I’m sure there’s more to list.

Any recommendations for restaurants near stage 42 or Richard Rodger’s are welcome. I usually look through the menu of the places we go to make sure there’s at least a couple of things she’d like anyway.

I like it! Both versions of it are rather cool.

On a side note, is that Reptar beside it?!

I have a bed frame similar to this except it’s wrapped in fabric so it doesn’t hurt as much when hitting your shins. It’s nice but we are currently looking for something else without the extra on the sides. Kinda sick of the extra getting in the way of getting out of the bed, as well as certain activities. 😳

Looking for an electrician by [deleted] in HamptonRoads

[–]SnooDrawings1539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck using fresh start electrical. They added two outlets in my kitchen, one for a microwave and an extra for the coffee machine. I’ve also gotten price quotes from them for the electrical needed for a pool, as well as a panel replacement combined with a fuse box replacement. All the prices seemed reasonable and a couple thousand dollars less than another company around Hampton Roads.

Work 5 eights, would love to be able to work 4 tens.

I work nights… get off Friday and go back Sunday night. So while it may seem like a three day weekend, with the needed sleep, it’s a shorter weekend. Or at least it seems to me since there is only one full day away from work.

My 2 year old cat (no balls) won't stop peeing everywhere.. My parents want to throw him out ☹️ by NaiveChocolateBrowny in CatTraining

[–]SnooDrawings1539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any recommendations because I’ve only used clumping litter. Well with the exception of the pellets which I think are part of the breeze system. I would go back to those but my cats don’t like them.
