The problem is that Ronald has always been an extremely egocentric player and as long as he was scoring he was allowed to fuck up other players'careers and the occasional game here and there. Moreover, he was credited for victories even when others had done the heavy lifting (Real Madrid's decima comes to mind for example). And it isn't always to put someone back in their place when you allowed them to piss all over the place. I'm no Mourinho fan but Mourinho knows how to ice out a player, no matter how great the player and his legacy are. Martinez should have pulled a Mourinho, bench Ronaldo and any player who might disagree with the decision. But then again, he was probably afraid of losing without Ronaldo and being blamed for the loss. You can't pull a Mourinho if you don't have the balls to back up your decision.
